Hi all,

I was playing Fuel Light Roulette yesterday and when I came off the motorway (with 14 miles range to go) the car just stopped and refused to start and came up with an "EL. POWER CONTROL - VISIT WORKSHOP" error message on the cluster and refused to start. After trying quite a bit it sparked into life and I made it to the nearby petrol station I was aiming to get to. I then filled up and althoguh it initially took a couple of goes to get it started (same message) it started and has been fine since.

A few questions:

1) What does this error message mean and how is it generated?
2) I think that I may have left the fuel get so low that dirt entered the fuel system/filter
3) Where is the fuel filter so that I can check it?
4) I have done a further 100 miles since and it has been absolutely fine, should I forget about it or have it checked?

I am thinking that it was my warning to not let the tank get so low and it was just a bit of dirt/low level of fuel which has now cleared.

Comments/Suggestions most welcome.

Thanks guys!

P.S. Apologies to anyone on the M40 J9 to A34 junction yesterday around 3.30PM (it was me!)

1) Is displayed when you run out of fuel(and other things).
2) Could be.
3) Usually in the bottom of the tank.
4) Forget about it.

Your fuel filter is in the engine bay on the right hand side of the engine. You need to take the cover of the top
