I replaced my rear number plate lights for error free LED type lamps which I used on my previous 2004 CLK but I removed before selling. I fitted these to my current CLK and the right one is OK but the left one flashes very slowly.
So I purchased a new pair of error free LED type lamps from a different supplier but guess what they were just the same, so had to revert to the old fashioned number plate lighting for now.
Anyone had the same problem?

Yes mate I too have the very same issue so have opted for these as a direct replacement. Im also have same issue in my footwell lights all work via leds except when I put led into drivers one then they all flash.

Please see this thread as I think this is our answer: CLK W209 08 Plate LED tail lights
Strange they worked fine on my older 2004 CLK.

I've tried a few different number plate LEDs on mine - all canbus but they have the same issues. I bought some led sidelights off Killerhertz and they work perfectly. I did have to remove and refit them a few times to get the error message to stop though.

I've had no end of issues with plate lights, In the end I went for a different supplier and style and they seem to work for about a year before failing. I don't mind the cost too much at £7 a pair if they last a year.

The one that's flickering, take it out and turn it round, failing that swap it with the other side. Still the same?

A mb tech told me that the lighting circuit is 14v and these aftermarket LED's are 12v so that's why they fail.

You can just use normal non canbus LED's and wire in a load resistor to make it think its a normal bulb though. Might be worth a shot in your case.

Thanks p3tchy, I think it is not worth the effort and just keep with my old fashioned bulbs. Still can`t make out why the number plate led`s worked fine in my previous CLK where the only difference was it was a diesel and not a convertible.

Probably down to component/unit tolerance.
Standard tolerances are 10%. It may be that your LEDs were seen as within tolerance on the old SAM, but are out of tolerance on the new one.
