Give the guy a break ...
If you bought it from any other Ebay seller , would you expect them to take it back after 3 months ? or even from a shop ?
Imagine it was M and S ...
' Oh yes , i bought it three months ago , but never tried it on until now , and now i realise it doesn't fit , can i have my money back ? '
If he wasn't a member here and hence by association 'a pal' would you expect a refund ?
Seems a shame to cut your nose off to spite your face because someone doesn't reply to an email about something bought months previously.
Howard, I do respect your views and the fact that you jump to the defence of a friend but you don't know the facts here.
Firstly, someone in the the business of selling Mercedes parts, using the brand name in their own name and regularly (and very usefully) contributing to this forum does lend them an added element of trust, I think.
Anyway, your analogy that my purchase was akin (say) to buying a pair of trousers that didn't fit is not valid. I bought a (new) genuine Mercedes exhaust that was specifically advertised as being for a 2.6 when it was actually for a 2.0.
Yes, it took me around 3 months to discover it was wrong but I'm not a mechanic and I'd no reason to doubt or even to check (to this day I've never seen the underside of my car - it's too low). Is 3 months too long to take to discover the fault? It is a while certainly but not an unreasonable time and it certainly doesn't bar me from taking action - I still could actually. But I have no intention of doing so.
Give the guy a break? I paid what I consider quite a lot of money for this and yet all I was asking for was a reply. I had thought we could come to some arrangement that suited us both. In case you think I was being unreasonable, here are the 2 PM's I sent:
"Centre Section Exhaust bought from Euromerc
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Nick,
I tried to contact you via Ebay's message system but received no reply so I'll try here.
You sold me a Centre Section Exhaust for my W201 2.6, on Ebay and delivered it (with some other items) to my home in *******, up in Scotland.
Well, there was obviously some mistake because the exhaust didn't fit. It turned out it was for a 2.0 and not a 2.6.
I realise you simply made some sort of simple mistake but I had to buy another one and am now stuck with an exhaust that's no good to me.
Can you reply, either to here or my email address (*******) please and we can see what we can sort out?
Kind regards, Rob"
and later:
"Hi Nick, can you answer please?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Nick, I've sent you emails to your Ebay account, email address and to the private message area here but am getting no answer.
It concerns an exhaust that you sold me, for a 190E 2.6 but which is for a 2.0.
I'd appreciate a reply to see if we could sort it out.
Kind regards, Rob"
I got no reply whatsoever.
