C270 CDI (2004 w203)
Hello

I have just acquired a C270 CDI Elegance estate. 100K miles and full merc service history :bannana:. There are one or 2 things I'd like to ask of the expert mbclub...

1) I have bought another rusty merc! :wallbash: Well its not too bad, just a v slight bubbly on the inside of the rear arches. Any idea where I stand with the Mobilo warranty - in the serv record it just mentions 'rusting through', not general rust

2) It is FMBSH but the last service was 3 yrs ago (but only 5000 miles). It is on the ASSYST system, so presumably the car knows best and it does not need a service yet... but 3 years seems long???

3) Bloody radiator paranoia! Can anyone advise? Veh ID is WDB2032162F569708, REGISTERED mAY 04

4) The engine temp goes up to around 80. Now my Volvo sat at 90, but a previous Audi operated at 80. Is this ok?

5) Just some minor stuff: steering is a tad heavy, is it adjustable?
6) The electric backrest seems to move several degrees at a time, ratherthan allowing a slight nudge, am I doing something wrong?
7) S and C mode - any difference in economy?
8) Can I find out from MB records if it had the 37000 mile ATF change. It works great, so am tempted to leave alone
9) It says malfunction 1 on the dash when I switch off (!)
10) Parkers and Autotrader give different 0-60 times, 9 and 9.4 i think, who's right??

Cheers for reading, P ;)

1. Probably very little chance. More likely zero.
2. Even on ASSYST they rarely go over 2 years without a service being due
3. Not sure but I think the problem was solved by 2004
4. Sounds fine
5. Dont know
6. That seems pretty normal to me. Quit ehard to adjust finely.
7. Very little if any
8. Yes you can and if not it needs doing.
9. It should tell you what the malfunction is in one of the menus.
10. Does it matter?

Hope that helps

My service indicator says I have 9000 miles to go until A required - the car has done about 5000 m since last service 3 yrs ago. Why wouldn't it be suggesting one is required yet?

Is the Mobilo thong a bit of a gimmick then?

It has maybe been re-set without a service being done?

Agree, very easy to do on w202 models is this the same on w203 ?

Yes its just a combination of pushes on the steering wheel buttons and the ignition switch so easy to do without doing the actual work.

All the previous services were at 17000 m, and it has done 5000 m since the last one (3 years ago), and th service indicator says I have 9000 m to go (14000 m in total). So that sound right to me (in terms on mileage alone), what I don't get is whether it HAS to be done every 18/24/26 months regardless??? Anyone know?

thanks

With star you can check few previous oil changes / service resets (not sure W203 system, W210 has 5, W211 about 30 last record...)

Doesn't it count down so many miles or time period whichever one comes first. Think the belief is that regardless of mileage oil has a certain life span regardless so should be changed if not because the oil has sat a lot but also the filters will be old. I'd have thought 3 years in between services is abit high even at low mileage . On another note brake fluid coolant etc has a 3 year life doesn't it before it's recommended you change it . This would also be part of the service it's reminding you about.

Regardless of miles covered it WILL come up for a service every 2 years on the older ASSYST system or around 15 months on newer cars. In the end the time component takes precedence over miles covered.

(!) indication could be power steering fluid low - hence the heavy steering ?
