Extended Warranties for High Mileage Cars

I own a 2003 C220cdi, and my wife is on her second A Class. My car has covered 100,000 miles, and at the end of my 120,000 mile contract which runs out on the 9th May, I will probably have covered c. 110,000 miles. At various times during the life of the car (same supplying/servicing dealer since new) I have discussed extending the warranty.
"No problem! You can do 1, 2 or 3 years, you just need to bring in for a check, which is charged for if you take out a 1 year extension, but is free if you go for 2 or 3 year options."
No problem I thought.
A couple of months ago, I asked the service department about the extension, "I'm sorry, but I can't talk to you about it, you'll need to speak to the business manager, due to new procedures."
Smells like a nasty insurance based warranty I thought!
On Friday of last week, in the dealers again, with half an hour to spare, so I thought I'd speak to the business monkey about the warranty. Lo and behold, they sell their "own" warranty which is only available on cars sub 100,000 miles, but he did say that I would be better off ringing MB, and getting them to extend it, as it would be cheaper and hassle free!
I speak to MB, and what do you know, "I'm sorry sir, our cars just aren't built to a decent standard anymore, so I'm afraid we can't extend the warranty on a vehicle that has exceeded 100,000 miles!"
I just cannot believe that they go on about quality, and owning the marque, and dealer history, and all that crap, and then don't want to know once the car has a few miles.
Your thoughts, and comments would be welcomed, along with any ideas about an extended warranty, and any idea of a good independent servicing guy in West Yorkshire.
Cheers!

Can't believe they said this!! if so you should have got their name and reported it.

I have run merc's over 100k (usually sell around 120k) with no problems at all, my mate at Merc has taxi's and the like comming in on monster mileage with no problems at all, was there the other day and a low mileage 5yr old ML came in for a service and got a £2k bill for extra works!

Just goes to show that high mileage cars are sometime best as they have had the long runs not just to pop down the shops thus not giving the engine time to warm up properly.

As for the extended waranty can't see the point, go to an independent or pop your head around the workshop door of your local Merc dealer and ask if they do private work ;) :D

cant say i am suprised - if mine makes it 100k i will be happy!

Forget any extended warranties, they are all an insurance rip off.

If you can get cover it won't be for much and will cost about £1k per year.

Put the money in teh bank for a rainy day and have all the fluids changed regularly and the car should last well.

Before the car comes off contract have the dealer check things like the autobox, injectors and turbo. After that don't worry.

...my W123 has just passed the 340,000 mile mark..I would love to ask the MB business manager for an extended warranty and query why they 'only' go upto 100,000 miles :D

I bought a W reg E320cdi this time last year with about 40K on the clock from a main dealer. The car came with the full MB warranty.
Due mainly to rust (inability of dealer to correctly treat) issues I didn't keep the car long - the dealer took it back off me and gave me a full refund.
I recently received an invitation from MB to extend the warranty for a further year.
I was surprised at the cost - between £600 & £700 for the year. As I don't have the car anymore I binned the invitation so I can't be precise about the price.
It surprised me that they were expecting that level of problems on a sub- 60K MB

I asked MB to quote me for a maint contract on my 6 mth old C270 for 30K/yr - they wanted £135/mth (inc VAT, but without tyres)! That should have been a warning not to buy it.
(No comparison, I know, but daughter's Seat Ibiza is £20/mth inc tyres, although only 12K/yr).

I assume DeeBee is paraphrasing what MB told him, in which case it really shouldn't be presented as a quote.

You're right, I was paraphrasing!
I was trying to inject a little humour into my otherwise sad tale.
I'm very appreciative of everyones' excellent responses!

Thanks a lot
