Familiar E55 W211 Moved to New Home Further North

Had a little bit of a holiday. :)

Started the car today and noticed a little bit of a noise, appeared to be coming from the Supercharger Pulley.

On closer inspection, the results are as follows which seem a bit noisy to me:

Anyone else agree?

I also noticed when idling the supercharge pulley was spinning too, never noticed that before, is that nornal?

i think mines the same Pat, and yes the pulley does turn whilst on idle, well mine does anyway.

Is that one of the Eurocharged 83mm clutched pullies?
Another member has just has his second pulley failure in 6 months and EC have stopped making that pulley now according to Acid.

I'm not 100%, for some reason I can't find an invoice for it in the folder, need @Alps to come to the rescue.

Noticed also a little bit of fraying on the belt so that could be doing with swapping.

That belt is fraying pretty quickly if it was new recently.
Still on my original belt 6 yrs later:)

Just had a check, looks like it was changed around 10k miles ago, so it isn't doing too well.

Hi Pat, sounds like bearing on pulley needs changing tbh. Its not on its last legs but like you id change it as it sounds like the grease has dried out.

No point changing the whole pulley as the cars mapped up to it, just get a replacement nachi bearing pressed in.

that belt is fraying a bit but not that bad tbh, you should have a fresh belt in the car as i know i dropped the spare in.

you have my number shout if you need anything!

Cheers Alps

Yes, think changing the bearing is a good idea, wont have done this any good being sat not running for so long.
I see some folks complaining on the Nachi bearing so I may try an alternative.

Good shout about the belt, I'll check the "big" box of bits I have.

Going to get the car over to Mercedes Edinburgh next week to also check the ride height.

no probs Pat

As long as you have a level playing field I would do the ride height yourself!

I have a guide somewhere if you have STAR. There is a tolerance level on the measurements (which can be overcome) take a bit of time but you can get it to the height you want. It will need 4 wheel alignment afterwards.

MB will have the ROMOS tool to measure which I have never had problems setting up without.

Thanks, thing is I can't find anywhere that actually states what the ride height should be and where to measure this.

I found "JOB AID Subject: Ride Height Calibration" but this states "
Using WIS, find the ride height specifications for the front and rear axles
and record
." and that is the bit I cant find.

I've already used Star to adjust the rear to get this as close as I can on a level surface.

Found the belt. ^

Had the car in at Mercedes today for an Oil Change, all good.

Also had it booked for a check on the Factory Level/Ride Height and a 4 Wheel Geometry alignment.

Couldn't do the alignment as the alignment machine was broken.

Also they couldn't check the Ride Height as with the car on a 2 Wheel Lift the Rear Air Springs (bags) hit against the shocks.
I was pretty sure this was just because the car was on a 2 post lift with no weight on the wheels at all.
Same as would happen with a conventional spring when you would see it bend when no weight on the suspension.
Getting it back onto the ground seems to confirm this as they do not hit off the shocks then.

So seems to have been a waste of £100, pity as I had high hopes.

Agree with Alps comments. The belt size is correct for the 83mm, some owners also ran a 1260 belt with no issues. Would also check your tensioner is working correctly. Is there much dust being collected on the underside of the engine cover that sits above the s/c pulley? Also worth noting that whilst spinning the pulley that the back plate gap isn’t consistent as it spins. Worth double checking all the way round with a credit Card.

Haven't noticed any dust but will check that and also the tensioner next time I have the bonnet open.

Strange, had the car out on Monday night and filled it with fuel.

Just went out to go to the shop and battery is totally flat!

Heat of the recent weather has been knocking out alot of Batteries Pat, We've sold loads this month, probably nowt to worry about bud

Just checked and battery is just over 6 years old, may just be up the spout or I've left something on. ;)
