Familiar E55 W211 Moved to New Home Further North

All of them i reckon Pat, Throw away society, old school mechanics are a dying breed most are just fitters

Exactly, computer says change this part.

I asked for a price on Monday from a well respected main dealer, still waiting, what is happening to folks now, how hard can it be to look a part up and send a price in a "timely" manner!
For me that is not over 2 working days later and have to say I am getting fobbed off with this, have now started just ordering some bits from the dealers that advertise on ebay rather than wait.

Still worked out as now I don't need to order that part. ;)

Just tested any errors on Star, odd thing due to battery being disconnected (airbag removal) etc.
Cleared any current codes, gave it a good run, parked up watched some BBC and drank a tea.

Drove back and checked again with Star, no errors. ^

Away back in 2017 I had an Air Suspension error on the dash, this was the first thing I went to fix before stripping everything off.

Ironic that after taking the car a run out yesterday this popped up on the dash. :)

Might need a new Air Suspension pump after all although when testing on Star it passes the automated test.

Hopefully it's a failing pump as that's relatively straightforward. Mine went on my 211 when it was 7 or 8 years old and had done 120k miles or so.

I had exactly the same scenario on mine a few years back.

It was the pump.

Cheers folks.

I might try changing the relay before the pump.

Anyone bought a new pump recently, guessing Wabco is way to go rather than a MB OEM (Wabco?) one

I went OEM so I can't help on that but I learnt they typically need replacing every 5 > 10 years on average.

Not sure how accurate that is though but mine showed that "car with up arrow" symbol ever since I bought it in March 2011 until the pump was replaced in January 2015 - I came out to the car and it was low as fook despite passing the pump stress test every time it had it in the intervening time.

Message disappeared after that of course.

Thanks John.

Job for me for later, got a little Imp crying at me for her newly refurbed engine first.

Had the car down to see a mate today that has just changed his Audi R8 (V8) to the newer Audi R8 (V10).
Wow what a car, very noisy, has some mega exhaust fitted.

Have to get a new Airmatic pump and change this soon, did it again today.

Not got a new pump yet but before I change the pump I thought I'd change the relay over, new one arrived today.

Old part number was A0025422319, replaced by new one A0009828523.

Will get the car out next time it's dry and see how it is with this, if not it's £260 for an OEM pump so think I would go this route rather than an aftermarket one.

Just to add a Arnott pump comes with the new relay. But agreed no real price advantage either way id have thought. :)

I was pleasantly surprised at £260 (£217 +VAT) for a new OEM one.
Had looked at one that a chap had on ebay (new OEM) but he wanted £240 for it so it is more expensive than me buying new!

It was away back on Page 1, Post 16 (2 years and 3 months ago) that I first delved into the Air Compressor, by Post 20 I had a new piston ring in and had it all cleaned up.

Sadly still getting the error coming up on the dash after a short drive so went and picked up a new compressor today thanks to Steve at Mercedes Edinburgh.

Will get this fitted over the next few days.

Decided since it was nice today to go and look closer at the Airmatic problem and also get Star on it for a look.

With Star doing an Airmatic test on the compressor unit it was apparent that the test only just completed before the 40 second test concluded (out of half a dozen tests longest was 38 seconds).

Test results with the old compressor here.

I then got the wheel and inner arch cover off to get the old compressor out and the new one in.

New compressor fitted, old one didn't look too bad as I had cleaned it all last time it was off but new one looks nice and shiny.

With things off it's a good opportunity to clean inside the wheel and the calipers etc.

Caliper still looking good, should do as they are less than a year and only a few hundred miles.

After all this was done it was time to go for a test drive but before that I thought I'd run another test on Star.

Noticeable difference now, system reaches the 14 Bar in under 8 seconds, quite a difference.

Run around town and no errors coming up on dash now.
