Familiar E55 W211 Moved to New Home Further North

I'm still working on the engine bay, had it kind of almost there today.

Then when I had a look at wiper linkage and plastic panel below this I decided this was too aged, now pulled all this off to treat it and get it all back to black.

Had to stop for a cuppa though.....

Now I'm looking at the valve covers they are annoying me, I can see these coming off for cleaning and polishing.

Will do, weather went very cold and overcast now so I'm back inside.

That's the problem living North of Marble Arch ;)

Well I have just finished this amazing saga, kept me amused for quiet a few hours, well done Patrick, the car looks amazing, and what a serious amount of work you have put in,but the results speak for themselves.

Glad you enjoyed, I still think the funniest part is that I started off with the Airmatic warning and at the end of it all still had this so had to then replace the Airmatic pump with a new one some 2 and a bit years after I started.

Plastic scuttle panel not looking too well as well as the plastic cover for the wiper.

Can't really see it in the picture though, I'll do a close up one once it is treated.

Same for centre of scuttle panel.

Quite pleased, looking a lot better now, have also done the top side plastic on the wiper blades.

I've cleaned the metal parts of the blades but these are a bit faded so think I'll have to polish up a bit.

Assuming anyone is here, any suggestions for the blades (metal parts) ?

Found this within the bonnet in where the washers are, looks like a GPS antenna? @Alps

I just think this model e class has aged so well. The car looks beautiful and love the attention to detail! You're doing a fantastic job. Really enjoy the updates

There is something about the W211 that is just so nice.

I can see me making the engine bay in this shiny.

Patrick - many thanks. Same colour code as mine too. As you say for cost difference would be better to just get a new one especially if it doesn't need to be painted. Those prices are less than I thought too:thumb:
I think MB have stopped colour coding 211/219 keyless go door handles now, so unless you are lucky and get a dealer with old colour coded stock they need to be painted. I got the last drivers side tanzanite blue for my cls about 2 momths ago and have had to have the rears painted for a couple of years. I have now had 7 replacements over two cars (211 and 219) in seven years. Three replaced under amg two year parts warranty. Always the same fault. Water gets in and it slowly stops working with a squidgy sound from the handle.

I got a quote back in March for a new handle in silver so it may be that silver ones are still available.
They certainly said they could get one delivered within a few days (before the lockdown).

Crazy how bad these handles are, they could have easily updated the design like they do for other crap parts.

Has anyone sent any of their engine parts away for vapour blasting or polishing ?

I'm looking at the valve covers in particular as if I take these off would make sense to have them cleaned and either left like this or polished/painted.
Was also having a look at the supercharger today and thinking the same for this.

I need to leave this a bit though as if I start now I'll end up taking the fricking lot to bits again.

Maybe when we get into June and out of lock down I'll do this and can do all the plugs and stuff at the same time.

I’ve not had any engine parts done, but I had my original set bbs lm wheel centres vapour blasted prior to getting them painted. They came out fantastic. Sadly I do not have those wheels now, but I’m in process of refinishing another set. I collected the centres last week and again they have come out perfect. I use a company called TSR Vapor Blasting in Sevenoaks in Kent. Obviously a long way from you, but most of the stuff Dave does is shipped to and from him anyway.

I’d have no hesitation in getting him to do engine parts. That’s mostly what he does and has a background in engineering and engine building for race cars. The final finish from him is that good I’m considering leaving them unpainted, just need to decide on how to protect them.
