Fatality as 2012 M-Class Prototype Crashes On Autobahn

There's a time and a place for 'smileys'.

This isn't it.

Duly noted and appologies for causing offence, it was not meant in that way.

At least the driver of the car survived, as I accept its bad enough someone died.

Perhaps this also is a lesson to be learned from here, be very careful getting out of your own car on a motorway if broken down/in a minor accident.

At 60mph you might just stop in the illuminated area.
I agree, but in the real world not many people will stick to 60 mph on a motorway at night. Statistically the chance of there being something unlit and stationary in front of you must be incredibly tiny (orders of magnitude less than the same situation occuring on other types of road).

Just a tragic accident. Wrong place, wrong time.

Happens each day - it's the fact that it's a Mercedes prototype makes it newsworthy.

I certainly hear what you are saying, but the average visible distance at night does not change with speed.....you just have a much shorter time to stop if you are travelling quicker.
At 60mph you might just stop in the illuminated area. At 120mph you have no chance.
In this instance it seems that if the ML had been able to stop it might have made a difference.:(

You're quite right, but I meant it in the sense that it would not have made the slightest difference whether he was outside the car or inside it. The wreckage of his car betrays a fatality either way.
