I run a 600bhp Mitsi Evo during the summer but always garrage the car over the winter period and buy something nice for work.

I know this is my first post so please be nice :)

Do any of you experince people have any thoughts on the 2 cars I am interested in below?

This is my fav but something is putting me off. Not the back ground, don't judge a book by it's colour.

1999 MERCEDES E320 CDI AVANTGARDE AUTO SILVER on eBay (end time 05-Dec-10 17:29:53 GMT)

2nd.

2001 MERCEDES-BENZ E CLASS E320 CDi Elegance 5dr Tip Auto Diesel Estate

The second one is the nicer of the two , it's just got that 'looked after' feel about it . P lus it has a proper AMG bodykit.

Aftermarket exhausts always put me off for some reason.

The colour combination of the estate is much nicer too.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you know what the difference is between the elegance and avantgarde is?

Avantgarde will have the blue tints to the windows and usually the black birds eye maple trim.

The suspension sits approx 20mm lower on avantgardes.

Elegances have the burl wood trim and a ( i think ) green tint to the windows.

Nice one. Looks like the lower one would of had the sports suspension along with the AMG body + wheels. The blue leather + steering wheel in wood is a 3k option.

I agree with Howard here - The estate is the much more usable of the two also. Welcome to the forum too, nice to have you along.

I'm concerned that the first car has a photo of the rear seats not the front seats - is there a lot of wear to them?

The 7 seater estate is a rarer car so may hold its value better.

Really ?

Leather looks like a fairly normal colour ? steering wheel wouldn't have been cheap though.

yes you have to spec the blue as a option, also the steering wheel has the wood trim at the top which is also a option. You know what Mercs are like. The option list is 10 pages long and they change it all the time :bannana:

;)

2nd one all day long, make an offer buyers market xmas, bad time to sell cars, great time to buy : )

Cheers for the input. Arranged to see the car on Sunday. Got myself 2 jacks, couple of torches etc to see rust lol. Also booked in for a remap at AMD.

Number two.

Its a facelift. Full auto climate control.

Full AMG kit

Very nice car.

It looks like 18" AMG's on both cars, the Avantgard will be quite a hard ride. I had the 300 version with 18" alloys.

There certainly was a marekd difference in ride quality between our (new) '98 e200 elegance and our (new) '01 e320 cdi avantgarde with the £500 sports wheel option (difda's i think). That said, there was also a marked difference between the aesthetics of the two cars :)

2nd car much nicer although its a shame about the colour match on the front wings - take a magnet in case they've just been bodged up.
I think the 2nd one, though, is well overpriced. It needs to be absolutely perfect with a bulletproof (invoices) history at that sort of money from a private buyer. I saw one locally sell at £3k same year not as nice colours same mileage needed two wings good history for £3200.

I agree. Number 2 looks best. Check very carefully for rust as this is the major weakness of these cars. Mine started rusting on bonnet and all 4 arches which is common. Money looks a bit strong to me.

this is so untrue.

i have all the spring pads changed and (a lot shorter) new springs on 18"s and the difference is not al that much different from stock.. to be honest it was a tad harsh until i fit a set of decent tires...it feels so smooth now
