Evening all!

Got my first MB today - it's a 54 plate E-Class 220CDI AG estate. It runs like an absolute dream, though I think it'll take me a few days to get my head around the comand system and multi-function steering wheel!

The only slight concern I have so far is the backlighting on the instrument panel seemed to disappear when I was out for a spin earlier. I was fiddling with various bits and bobs at the time (but I don't think I touched the dimmer switch), so not sure whether I knocked / turned something off or whether this might be a loose connection or something?

Seems to be working ok again now.

Only other niggle is I can't seem to find a cup holder? Is there an aftermarket one that anyone could recommend?

Cheers,
Jon.

Welcome to the forum Jon. :)

Hello Jon
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your first Mercedes :thumb:

Welcome.

The backlighting goes on and off with the headlights I think, you may have gone through a tunnel/trees/shade which may have caused the headlights switch on or off if you had it on auto, this may cause the backlighting to go on or off as well.

You can buy one of these cupholders which goes in the coin tray in front of the centre armrest. A little pricey though.

MERCEDES E CLASS CUP HOLDER W211 211 B66920118 - eBay (item 190457295724 end time Feb-13-11 08:00:58 PST)

oem cup holder expensive but neat and only holds one. meant for US market but i'm sure you can order from dealer here in the ~Uk...othewise, see this site www.ultimatecupholders.com i think they're pretty neat for aftermarket type.

Welcome and good choice sir. I ran mine to over 176k miles and it still made a good deposit on my current C320.

Keep it maintained well, fix anything that breaks and change its fluids and filters on time and it'll be a good car.

Two words though - valeo radiator - search the forums and gain wisdom...

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Had heard of that! Though I should be safe though on a 54 plate (registered Nov 04). Is there a way of checking to see if I have one?

Quick poke under the bonnet, and I was relieved to see the name BEHR stamped on the the oil cooler. Didn't see anything on the main rad (couldn't access the top of it), but hopefully it is Behr as well.
