Forgotten hot hatches...

I never did get round to that GTV 2.5…..

Many moons ago(mid 90`s) my mate had a red GTV6 while i had a bmw 325i. Loved the engine in the beemer but it could`nt touch the tunes from the Alfa! While barreling along the A38 one night we`re in the Alfa enjoying that soundtrack when EVERYTHING died:oops:. Engine, lights all dead as a door nail, to which my mate says OOh open the glove box & rattle the wiring around!!??Eh? Anyhow a quick jiggle of electrickery & she burst back into life much to our amusement! He said it was a bugga if he was on his own when it did it as he could only just reach the glove box!!:) Character in spades & good fun. Rotten as a pear yet looked beautiful. Loved em.

Loved my little Novas. I think it was the Quattro wannabe wheel arches that did it for me :). I had 2 SRs, a red C reg and a white E plate bought brand new with factory alloys and sunroof. Pretty much identical to this one:

That's all very well but has the 30 year argument been settled yet as to whether the 1.3 or the 1.4 was the best ? (Won't even mention the 1.4i !!!! )

I had to make do with a 3 year old boggo 1.2i with 85 miles on the clock (drawn out probate from a deadun) had biceps like Arnie after 6 months !

Corker :)

I had the SRs spiritual successor

(Not my actual car but looked identical)

Killed it at 30k by taking 5 tonnes of old driveway down the tip because I was too tight to pay for skips !!!
Nice!

I had a Corsa SRi 16v but sadly I don’t have any photos of it unfortunately despite owning it for a few years and loving it! I’ll ask my mates if they do…

Nice one!

They were indeed great cars, I’d love another but I would want it to be original. Must have been great to have one new, and you must have liked them a lot to have two 👍🏻

I remember going to a car supermarket and they had three brand new J-reg facelift SRi in red, white and blue and I really really really wanted one. They were £5.5k IIRC.

I had my heart set on a grey SR (not available on facelift) - as I loved the look of our milkman’s grey GTE - and bought the 1987 E-reg SR, (as shown in the photo).

When he saw it on the drive he told me that he was selling his GTE! I couldn’t buy his car as I had just bought the SR so I bought his LXi wheels (also in the photo)! 😁

Good times.

1.3? 1.4? 1.4i? or a GTE/GSi with the 1.6?
I remember at the time, the car all SR owners really wanted was the rare Irmscher/Steve Thompson Nova Sport with a pair of Weber twin 40's and a high-lift cam.

Good times indeed.
Although it's easy to forget that they had heavy steering, pretty average brakes and only 70-ish bhp ( Mrs Spiky's SEAT is a 1.4 with 150bhp)
But they had character and were a hoot to drive.
Anyhoo, Mr Dazzler- here's your chance:

There are a couple of cars I really liked, from the same manufacturer and the same era (I mentioned them on other threads).

One was a coupe, that rather oddly had an estate (of sort) version as well.

The other was a 4-door saloon known for its 'Swiss cheese' dash.

Name the cars :D

Lancia Beta, coupe and HPE. Also a Zagato designed convertible.

Swiss cheese dash was the Trevi wasn't it?

You know your Vauxhalls!

I used to pass the Steve Thompson Irmscher showroom regularly in the 1980/ and used to think it was the coolest place with the coolest cars.
