Formula 1 2020 (Will Contain Race Day Spoilers)

Big mistake from MB putting Bottas on a second set of softs which had no grip. Instead should have gone soft, medium, medium. Poor start from VB though, just didn't hook it up and left the door wide open for Stroll into turn one. Lewis was on another level today. Max did really well to snag second. As for Ferrari, what a shambles they have become. Amazing that Seb could hang on to a result given the contradictory hurry-up, slow-down instructions from the pit-wall. Very puzzling for Charles, I hope they get to the bottom of that particular gremlin.

Edit - Forgot to say, Stroll had a pretty decent weekend. He's actually showing some talent. And finally, why the heck don't Haas get shot of Grosjean and put Hulk in the car?

According to the BBC RADIO 5 LIVE broadcast appart from the engine stall there was a problem with Charles' restraint harness -meaning he returned to the pits part unrestrained*- Maybe he took it off himself when stalled? ----his pitcrew tried in vain to sort the engine fault but they failed- perhaps anticipating disqualification they retired.
*against regs??

He admitted that he undid his seatbelt when it failed to restart. He then tried again and got the donkey going again, but could do his belts up.

2ND VIDEO ----SOME INCIDENT DETAIL HERE. Where the incident happened he could have returned to the pits almost immediately but completed another lap unrestrained which I'm pretty sure breaches the regs-- he was certainly "exposed" where the incident occurred so the first instinct to abandon the car is perhaps understandable.

Well missed the race yet again, will watch it tonight, the only thing I would say is that I understand the tyres were back to the same compounds they had before Silverstone, not sure it is Pirelli remit to do this, that is to move all the compounds up a grade so super soft becomes soft, and so there was no actual hard only medium with a white band around it,or did I get this all wrong, and if I did I have no excuse not even on the drink.

I'm not sure wether it is riveting or just Lewis nailing down another title :dk:

Either way it was a bore for me.
Cannot remember turning the TV off and walking out the door before.

I'm not a Max fan but thank goodness he is there, without him I'd have likely switched off way before I did.

In the recent Ductgate, Ferrari et al have jumped on the Renault bandwagon.
Yes, you can understand from one perspective that in motorsport you do everything within the regulations to gain an advantage.

From a more cynical viewpoint, this is the same Ferrari who, whilst having done nothing wrong (!) emerged from an engine regulation 'clarification' with car which lost the guts of a second a lap.

Now they jump on the copycat bandwagon. Hass the company no shame?:dk:
Black and white Ferrari good. Pink Mercedes bad!
Yeah! I know it's not quite as black and white as that, but you get the idea......

Concorde agreement finally signed by all teams. I guess this means Mercedes will be staying in the sport but then again presumably they could pull out as a constuctor at any time?

Williams sold to US investment firm.

Formula 1 team Williams have been bought by US-based investment firm Dorilton Capital.

Williams, who were put up for sale in May, will still race under the same name and remain at their English base.
"This is the end of an era for Williams as a family-owned team, but we know it is in good hands," deputy team principal Claire Williams said.

"It ensures the team's survival but importantly provides a path to success."

A statement from the F1 team added: "This marks the beginning of an exciting new era in the history of Williams, which with its new owner is well positioned to capitalise upon the sweeping rule changes coming into Formula 1 with the new Concorde Agreement."

Well not a moment too soon for Williams,I could see this season being the last for them, zero points scored.

I think there are maybe 2 types of investors/sponsors in F1 teams - different motivations but not totally mutually exclusive . One is more likely to be motor sport oriented perhaps from a technical/engineering corporate activity whereby some of the F1 cutting edge technology may reflect well on their image and they wish to play an active role in the team development- in other words some of them are enthusiasts. The second are there mainly for the image/ publicity- the paddock passes, the luxury yacht hospitality in Monte Carlo harbour, the press conferences/interviews being seen with the glitterati etc etc. They are more likely to leave the "oily bits" to the existing team structure content to bathe in any corporate reflected glory. Nothing wrong with that per se, their money is still as valuable, but the first is perhaps more likely to bear fruit for the team in the longer term?

ps Dieter Zetsche was seen frequently in the pits with the MB Petronas crew where's the new guy Ola Kallenius ?

There is at least one other type of investor in F1. The equivalent of the 'Soccer Mum' or 'Karting Dad' wanting the biggest and best for their offspring.
Not mutually exclusive from either of your quoted types of investor, but with a very strong motivational factor. Think Pink!
I've come across a fair few in my time ranging from really nice people to the totally Trumpesque.

When using "bought" I wonder for how much or is it really a case where the buyer has come in with funds to see Williams F1 secure a future due to their own lack of funds?

I wonder if things will just carry on down the road they have been going with the same team setup?

For me one of the big problem with Williams F1 in recent years has been the recent reliance on drivers coming in with money, so not always the best available driver in the car.

I also cannot see how the Team Principal (TP) could stay in their position giving where they have driven the team to!
Then again I'm sure I recall on the TV program I watched that Frank was actually still TP with Claire Williams being deputy.

I'd love to see them turn things around with the current setup but believe if they do not then changes from the top down will be on the cards.
