Formula 1 2020 (Will Contain Race Day Spoilers)

What interested me was the pre-race Channel 4 interview with Toto Wolfe which gave the strongest indication yet he is contemplating giving up the role of team principal of the Mercedes F1 team. "Quit while you're ahead" seemed to be the message but I suspect covers up a range of conflicting team issues in the background which he is struggling to maintain/ keep under control at an increasingly unacceptable personal level/cost?

Do you mean his involvement with Aston Martin?

I watched the highlights of the race early this morning and noticed Coulthard asking VB about his race and what could he do to stop LH. VB's face .....

Great to see Norris in 4th overall and how good would have been to Russell to get his 1st points? Have RP said what happened to Strolls car as I seem to have missed that.

I didn't listen to any post race interviews but I thought VB's frustration shone through with his mid race commentary "whatever tyres Lewis has I'll have the opposite". Not that the race engineers took any notice and Bottas pitted first anyway.

LH's 'Arrest the cops' T shirt won't go down well with a v. large section of the US population, largely those who vote Trump - about half of them.
US Mercedes boycott/backlash in the offing?

I only watch the highlights and the live races on Ch4. Yesterday was a destruction derby which served to make an interesting race.
Seb may not have qualified well but only finished one place behind his team mate, who made it to Q3.
Well done young Albon maybe the beginning of a good run?
The best bit of the Sunday highlights was the absence of Steve Jones. It was a much more serious event without him cavorting around spouting cr4p. He is a complete lightweight.

Bottas is (ought to be) frustrated. He made a great start yesterday (as did Max for the first 5-10 seconds before his donkey ran out of puff), but was unable to really take it to Hamilton through the race. Didn't do well on the subsequent standing restarts. Carnage at the back spoilt what chances he may have had following the safety car restart.

Had Hamilton pitted first, Bottas could have chosen the opposite tyre. Having pitted first, Hamilton chose the same tyre. Don't know if Bottas' stop could have been delayed long enough to give him the option instead. Team radio suggested not.

In qualifying, Valteri can get very close to Lewis and is occasionally quicker. In the race, Lewis is typically just better for longer.

I thought is was funny hearing LH complaining his rear tyres were shot. Then VB said on team radio put me on a different tyre to Lewis when we pit (assuming Lewis as lead driver would pit before him).

(assuming) Lewis was told about Bottas’s request and said: ‘My tyres are fine man!’ (Meaning pit him first and it’ll have what he’s having.) 😁

Anyone else hear Kimi’s team radio? ‘WHY???!!!’ Proper snap on there! 🥳

Love to.
This thread is about F1 and not politics isn’t it?

Leave politics to the politicians and sports to the sportsmen and women. Can you imagine Boris doing the 100m!!
Fair enough comment, but didn’t the current F1 world champion trigger these comments?

LH's smoking brakes at the first standing restart seemed to be quite a statement of intent for exactly what he was going to do at the first corner.

Lance Strolls crash was a rear tyre blow out at 170 mph.

I'm not too sure, he's very clever at sending mixed messages. He did an interview with SKY F1 after one of the practice sessions (I think) and he said that he wants to continue with Mercedes and he has a great relationship with Ola.

Wolff's body language in that channel 4 interview was telling. For me it spoke of a man who once looked forward to work on a Monday morning but now finds it more difficult to get motivated . Not as if he needs the money?
And Ola Kallenius when did you last see him in the paddock? 🤔

Jim Ratcliffe has been divesting his money into sport for some time, it is highly likely that Ineos will buy and take on Mercedes F1. He already tried to buy McClaren, without success.

Maybe.

In the interview with Toto and Lewis broadcast on Sky over the weekend; Toto said the advertising value to MB had as a result of what is happening in the F1 team, had risen from a few hundred million dollars per annum to $4.5 billion per annum. He also sad that today, Mercedes cars are generally regarded as being sporty which is different from ten+ years ago.

So, I'm not sure at the moment if MB would sell the F1 team. Maybe in a year or two.
