Formula 1 2020 (Will Contain Race Day Spoilers)

Silly season is a bit erm.....silly this year. Numerous rumours flying around that must be unsettling for teams and drivers alike.

Russel out, Perez in
Gasly Out
Albon Out
etc etc

Personally think George Russel has done a great job in a terrible car, truly believe that given a competitive car he would produce results. Perez comes with a huge amount of sponsorship which for a ream such as Williams will be paramount to any decision. Unfortunately i think the writing me be on the wall for this one, the only saving grace could be the overall performance - would Perez be willing to slip so far back in terms of equipment and results.

Gasly has had a great season, especially compared to his previous one. I honestly think he will leave the RB fold, personally hope he does. I wasn't a fan of Gasly but also wasn't a fan of how he was treated at Red Bull, i am starting to wonder if the second seat is almost a poison chalice at RB.

Albon I think will hang on one more season as it is already agreed and then he's out. I don't think he has had that much of a better season in the seat.

I see there is another wave of the mega rich buy in, set to cause disruption too.

I think there will be a huge amount of change coming:

HAAS - Both seats will see new drivers one in the form of the investor son and the other I think Ocon will take
RP - Hulk Partnering Vettel
Ren - Ocon out Russel In
Williams - Perez In, Latifi is not going anywhere given that his family are one of the teams main sponsors

Yep been reading the latest instalment of silly season, some seem very far fetched but you never know!

Haas - I do think they will replace both drivers as they need a change. There is rumour of a rich F2 driver's father investing heavily in the team
RP - Can't seen Lance Stroll not being there. Probably the main reason Stroll Snr took over the team
Renault - I do think Ocon may lose his seat in 2022. Could be Gasly or Hulk, depending on what Hulk does for 2021
Williams - Perez has a good shout, providing he wants to go there. Would be an absolute shame for Russell to lose his seat to a paid driver that he has out performed all season
Alfa Romeo - Kimi and Mick Schumacher for 2021. I think Kimi will continue

If Russell does get dropped, I think he will be in the Mercedes seat in 2022 anyway. If Lewis doesn't retire, I think he may get Bottas' seat.

There is another story of Red Bull threatening to pull out if engine development isn't frozen. This is because they apparently want to take over the Honda programme an develop it themselves. Ferrari have apposed this (surprise surprise).

Very poor from Ferrari if this is true... I still don't understand why they get the power of veto.

I would guess they threaten to leave the sport and F1 know they will lose millions of viewers who watch just to see the red cars.

FWIW, I think that though you're right, Ferrari need F1 more. Without global exposure via F1, Ferrari would lose out big style.

Because everybody knows F1 cannot possibly exist without the back half of the grid team.

Don't they?

I'm old enough to remember Manchester United being relegated from the old First Division, when they were hyped even more than they are now. Division One just got on with it and existed perfectly well without them.

As a lifelong Utd fan, I remember that well... :(

F1 could be fine without Ferrari IMO. Better with Ferrari I guess, though given the embarrassing lack of performance from them right now....

So, you have never actually woken up with a dead prancing horses's head in your bed then?:dk:

I've also heard tell of small water dwelling mammals that exploded.

An otter you can't defuse!......

More rumours from Planet f1 to keep us armchair fans guessing😃

Stroll feeling unwell and pulling out of the previous Grand Prix turned out to be Covid, he tested positive after the event. He has now tested negative and will be back in the car this weekend.

Watched a programme on TV yesterday where the doctor said it was perfectly possible to test positive, test negative some days later yet still have the virus. Apparently its only visible in testing for a limited amount of time, which sounds pretty worrying...

No.

More rumours from Planet F1 to bait clicks.
Not necessarily, when other news outlets print or post the same rumours.
Clickbait or not, some of these rumours will become fact.

Plus Hulk has been flown to Portugal already, on standby for Racing Point in case LS hits a problem again!

Both Haas drivers have confirmed that they were let go due to financial reasons. As both driver's don't have huge sponsor backing and don't bring the money some paid drivers do. Having been on the grid for a few years, they must have a reasonable salary. Perez has some good backing and experience, so he is probably on top of their list. Ferrari will be trying to throw one of their younger drivers in the mix, which will substantially reduce their wage bill.

Well it's starting to happen... Grosjean and K-Mag will not be driving for Haas next year

I've been surprised Grosjean lasted so long in F1.

He clearly demonstrated raw speed and exciting potential early in his career but has been too variable in terms of his temprament and racecraft to exploit his underlying potential.

And Magnusson not so much raw speed and a bit of an attitiude issue on track.

Haas must have had better options who could have got them more points.

Max and Lance have an incident during FP2. Initially Max seems to be at fault and had plenty of bleeped out words on the radio. When asked about the incident (and swearing) afterwards, most drivers would say heat of the moment etc , which I agree with. His answer was 'not my problem'. This part of his attitude has never changed and not something I personally like.
