Found a cheap tyre supplier

I've got the HUKD (hot UK deals) app on my phone, and I just added 'tyres' as a filter to see what came up. The prices are probably not as good as camskill or tyreleader, but it does bring up a list of suppliers and deals...

I must confess to not chasing the cheapest price.
Instead, I look for a reasonable price locally; I like convenience and I don't buy some things at a distance (e.g. tyres and electrical goods). For the few extra pounds, I would rather support the local business which is the one I'd turn to in an 'emergency', as it were, and to whom I could easily return to resolve any issues with the product.

Well said!

I do the same for all of the cars we run, we are lucky that although living in a village we do have a local tyre supplier nearby and we always get excellent service as well as competitive prices.

As an example, last year I was unfortunate to get two punctures and a damaged wheel one evening due to a very poorly maintained road.

The car was dropped off at the tyre shop late at night and when I rang the next morning around 08:30 the owner had already seen the damage, had ordered two tyres in and by midday he had replaced both Michelin tyres, straightened the wheel and set the tracking and all for £250

When I bought the Conti MOs, my local tyre fitter simply matched the online price I had for them.

I'd rather keep local businesses going if they are of utility but my local tyre shop is Kwikfit and they tried to charge me almost double the online price fitted of a pair of tyres. Instead I had them done by Event Tyres on my drive with a fitter who loved the Cosworth and was absolutely fastidious about protecting the alloys.

The previous time I'd bought tyres from Kwikfit I found the fitter torquing the wheel nuts sequentially and he basically told me to f off when I pointed out I'd rather have them done in the approved way.

Having just bought an Alpina with new tyres that I will have to change (the previous owner fitted 97 load rating Bridgestones - tramline pothole hell time) I am going to find the cheapest source of Michelin PS3s I can.

Given that a local tyre fitter will be fitting the tyres you purchased online.... you are still supporting local business.

Well well well, I checked camskill & tyreleader prices today for 2 rear Continental Sport Contact 5 255/45/R18 103Y XL FR tyres.

Camskill price: £160.05 inc VAT per tyre
Tyreleader price: £167.49 inc VAT per tyre

Local tyre centre (Tyreland/Protyre) price: £201.43 inc VAT per tyre

I asked if they would price match these if they fitted them too, and they took a deep intake of air and said 'yeah, why not?'

Price per tyre to fit they quoted was £15.

I shopped locally and got the best price, and have the convenience of an all in one supply and fitting service, so good news all round. :D

Edit: The price the local supplier originally quoted me was in fact about £220 each on the phone, then I told him the online price their website showed was £201. He said prices fluctuate daily.
