Fuel, what are people's opinions on quality

Sounds like a good idea to me. Might save a few quid too??

I have a good independent who used to do my W210, but I am not so sure about AMG for servicing. Certainly, when I called the dealership service centre, they said "AMG and Mercedes are all the same parts anyway, there's nothing special about them" and told me I could book it in for the next available slot in 3 weeks time. Basically, he sounded like a bit of a p***k, so I am not sure where to get it serviced, the same centre had my W210 for 4 days in, without even looking at it for a repair, and I just took it and went elsewhere they are so bad.

WOuld it be insane to drive it to Stuttgart's Mercedes World servicing and get it done there as part of a ring trip? Is that crazy? Certainly, it would be a great trip, service the car and do a few laps. Has anyone done this?

Unless you have a particular need to go to Stuttgart then just take it to your local MB dealer. Most of the parts of the car are the same as the standard parts and the non standard ones are easily obtainable through the dealer network.

I don't really follow your comment in your post.

It's broadly true, except for the brakes, suspension and breathing. But you run an AMG and probably have more interest in the mechanicals than the average company car driver. So you want to talk to the person who worked on the car and know the how's and why's. At least, I do. Plus, specialists are about half the hourly rate of main dealers, so win-win.

Yeah, they have a lot of similar components but my local dealers all get servicing through one main servicing company which I probably shouldn't mention, but they screwed up twice before on me with my E-CLass and I am loath to go back again. The independent is very good but my B-service was almost €1500, at around €120/hour, and he knows there are few other reputable places in the city.

More like I fancy doing a bit of sightseeing and going to the ring, could fit it in on the way.

My indie is £40/hour. At Euro 1500 your B service was surely a lot more than just the standard service, which should be half that? My four year service (including transmission oil/filter change) was £1000 at the indie (about Euro1500) which saved £500 on the dealer quote.
