G Wagon Cabrio

I just saw an odd contraption at lunch, a convertible G-Wagon. Did they ever officially make these? It was something like a C registration, but looked in good condition.

Bit of a Suzuki Vitara thing going on with the roof though...

Yes, it was official and agree the whole arrangement looks very aftermarket with the sloping pillar from the b-pillar.

Almost bought a D-reg cabrio when these were about five years old. Black metallic too but although I needed a 4x4 for desert excursions I also wanted to get there and back in the usual two-week break and a diesel manual just wasn't going to allow that! An even rarer VW Tristar cruised at 70-80 mph while it took forever to get the G up to 60 mph on the Northampton bypass.

Really? Car did look much newer than a C plate, I think it was a private plate of some sort.
