Hi Guys
After seeing my work on Richards silver SL55 AMG, mbclub member KMA880 contacted me to take a look at his two sl’s and his newly acquired 993 911 C2S. After a meeting at his house, it was to be the 993 to be booked in for a full correction first as he had only just purchased the car. The car had not been washed since purchased so was generally pretty dirty. But though a very tidy example it was in need of some TLC in the correction department. The car was booked in within a week of viewing to be followed with his SL. The car arrived on Saturday 9th February, where it was locked away in the studio until I started it on the Monday.
Monday morning arrived and it was time to start the detail on one of my most favourite 911’s. As you can see the car on arrival was in good shape, not to dirty, so this one was going to be all in the detail.
First thing was to degrease all the shuts & gaps as they were full of grease and old polish resin.
Then it was onto the exhaust to try and remove some of the nasty baked on fumes from the rear boxes.
Once this was completed it was time to degrease, scrub and rinse the arches. The wheels were not cleaned at this stage as I was removing them to clean off the car properly and crystal lacquer them.
The car was snow foamed at 60*c and washed with born to be mild. It was then taken back inside to be dried with a 70/30 towel and warm air blower.
Once the vehicle was dry it was time to proceed with a mild clay bar and lubrication and then given a thorough IPA wipe down to remove clay sling and any old polishing oils. Once completed, it was apparent there were some severe defects within the paint. The front bumper had a few chips but one nasty rock chip that was quite large.
But worst of all the rear bumper at some point had a poor smart repair, had not been keyed properly and the lacquer had failed
After speaking to the owner and offering two options, it was choose that they would be smart repaired. Now smart repairs are no full repaint quality and a full respray was the first option to ensure a perfect job. But the car was already having a lot of money spent on bringing it up to scratch already so this was the only cost effective option. But you will soon see our style of smart repair is done to the highest standard.
So to start with it was time to correct the rest of the car. The paint was in ok condition, so just had light swirl marks, a few rds’s and quite a lot of D.A. sanding marks. These were apparent across the car, with the roof being particular affected with large deeper scratches. So here are some various correction photos.
