Had the pleasure of going round the circular bowl at the MIRA testing facility today in a new SLR. Only got to 170 as it was raining heavily.

Was quite looking forward to it, however to be honest it wasn't all that great. The car sounds awesome, best V8 sound i've heard to date, and got it a bit sideways on the straights in the wet, but it didn’t feel any faster than my CL, except on initial standing start acceleration to 70mph.

For £330,000 its an awful lot of money for such a car, and I really don’t think it's worth it after spending 20 mins with one today in what should be its element.

OK, if I won £5m on the lottery I’d have one, but not if it was my own money I was spending. CL65 is good enough for me for less than half the price!

Also saw the new XK8 Convertible, Aston Vantage V8 and Bentley flying spur. We overtook all of these at quite a nice speed :D

Anyway, SLR's been crossed off the list! :D :D

You lucky man.

Woo... How do u do it lol?!

No I have to say the SLR isn't my fav as well.

can you get me a go in a bristol fighter????

and is there a point at which my SLK will make it on to your list? it may be looking for a new home and i want it to go to a decent one.

I looked round the McLaren Techno centre in September...and i wasnt that taken with the SLR......but then i aint ever seen one on the roads or been in one....so i shall reserve judgement on whether i would buy one or not....not that i will ever be in a position to anyway.......dont do the lottery.

Which leads on to the question of what will be replacing the CL when it goes?

You certainly deserved the test drive and congratulations on reaching 170mph.

I suppose the tyres were rated for that sort of speed in the wet? ;)

The SLR has never been on my wish list and the Mclaren is simply not an everyday car.

Well done,
John

I've heard the new Buggatti is swift.................

thats quality i love the slr.. how did u manage to get in one.. i would love to drive one

where is it? how? etc

Last time I went to Mira I spent two days in the pouring rain taking readings of a Mondeo. Not quite the same!!

Did a Porsche test there , found the track way too tiny! considering it's secrecy A5 should have popped in for a cuppa Tea-ish

By the way Jag use the local run from Solihull to Tamworth to test Jags always in the layby by Drayton Manor park to write notes.! WTFF is beyond me?? Seen the new Xk8 too.. too be honest did not see what the heck it was till i saw jag in the chrome boot fender on M42 Tamworth services

Maff, I'm sure I read one of your posts saying something like "...you change your car each year because you get bored easily..." (found it)
So try one of these. It's a lot faster than it looks, and will FEEL fast too. :D :D :D

Sorry Matt - but I think we need a second opinion. Tell you what, you set it up and I'll give it a go and see if we concur :D :D

Actually make you car sound like a bargain when you put it like that :D

Awesome. Sounds great fun.
