Great service with map update

Mercedes have written to me saying there will be no more updates for NTG 4.5/4.7 etc its too old the last one was V19:wallbash:

Hence using a aftermarket service đź‘Ť

It worked fine in France and Spain on our month away and found lots of small hamlets. The routes work well as do alternatives it shows. The traffic works as it should with it but with fuel costs up I have not had to avoid traffic jams

On it list of towns search however Bromley Kent is missing there is about 6 number 'Bromley xxxxxxx' in other parts of the UK. Odd as Bromley is is the largest in Greater London by area

Maybe it more Germany EU biased
Did Mercedes write back and apolagise for the misinformation ?

The roundabout here was removed before 2020, POI file also atteached..

Hopefully there is an update available for me ;)

can you do the map update while driving the car?

can you do the map update while driving the car?

Yes (though obviously you won't be able to use the navigation software while the maps data is being copied from the USB drive to the internal HDD).

And, if you stop and park-up the car before the update is finished, the maps update will be automatically suspended, and then resumed when you next switch on the engine.

It takes 60 to 90 minutes in total to complete.

Useful info in this thread, but can someone tell me how to confirm which Comand unit I have?
I feel I've looked in all possible menus but can't see anything. I know I'm running v.19 maps and suspect I've got NGT 4.5/4.7, but I'd like to know for sure.
I have the manual, but that doesn't seem to identify anything either...

Hi. If you enter your VIN into www.mbdecoder.com you will see all the options installed on your vehicle. The type of Command unit will be listed.

Thanks, but having now looked at that there's no mention of a version number in the list. The only mention is this:
527
COMAND DVD APS WITH NAVIGATION

Does it have an SD card slot? Actually, post a pic of the front of the unit and someone should be able to help

Yes, there is an SD card slot - though the manual mentions about map updates being on DVD. Is that an either/or process I wonder?
As suggested, photo attached

No pic. It needs to be embedded in your post - "insert image"

I'm sure if you click that Sys button, the info for the Comand model you have is displayed.

Option 527 is indeed COMAND NTG4.5/4.7.

The latest version of the maps is v20.0.

The maps can be updated via DVD, SD-Card, or USB drive. The best (and quickest) option is the USB drive via the USB slot inside the armrest (on W204 cars).

The maps data can be downloaded from the Internet free of charge. Alternatively, some sellers will send you the maps on a USB drive, which is helpful if you do not have access to a fast Internet connection (it's a ~40gb download).

You will also need a PIN code, that is generated for your vehicle and will be unique to your car's VIN. You can buy an official PIN code generated by MB from MB dealers or MB specialists, or you can buy a pirated code off eBay for less - they both work, and I won't go into the morals and legality (or lack of) of this option, so make up your own mind.

if pirated code works, MB’s security system must be rubbish

It's not the fault of the 'security system' as such, but certainly they are not protecting their IPR properly.

He provided me with something that I was willing to buy from MB had the price been reasonable.

Where has he stolen the V20 ntg4.5 / 4.7 from? It is not available from MB.
He buys one copy legitimately from MB. Copies the data (against the ULA) then sells it on for circa ÂŁ79 with a pirated activation code.

Should your Comand unit ever get replaced by MB or a specialist youlll get back the maps that were last legitimately purchased for the vehicle.

Interesting. MB don't seem to be doing themselves any favours because the pirated update is far easier to buy.

ALL satnav maps are available online via piracy. I am not aware of a single model of satnav - in-car, or standalone - that you can't get pirated maps for.

Some are being sold on eBay, others are available for download via file sharing websites and Internet forums. You'll need to be computer-savvy to do it yourself, but it's all there.

This is not an MB problem, it is an industry-wide issue.
