Heated seat mystery

We're talking about a post facelift car, Malcolm. The SL60 had the same basic spec as the SL500 with the addition of the bodykit and multipiece wheels (mechanical mods aside).

I do know that, but no one has a better list, as I said before, everything was thrown in after 07-98. but even in 1998 the 600 got a few things free that was not on the 500

Literally an SL500 from the factory sent to Affalterbach to be turned into an SL60 by AMG :).

Don't agree Ian - I've never known this to be the case - in fact it's been highlighted on every SL60 spotted for sale and posted on the forum.

Apologies, I should have pointed out that I'm still quoting MB, attached the relevant section from their June 1997 UK spec sheet.

A very bizarre spec sheet.

ESP has always been standard on 500s from MY96. Panoramic roof was always standard on SL600s since 97, as was the wood steering wheel, cruise control etc. Multi-piece AMG wheels weren't standard on 600s either - they had their own design.

Best put that in the bin!

 When I got my 1996 S500, the ESP was still a paid-for option (still have the invoice somewhere ).

According to this link:

A new Electronic Stability Program (ESP) antiskid system became standard on the SL600 and optional on the SL500.

Admittedly different countries have different standard specs, but it seems odd to me that on the S500 it would be optional, yet standard on an SL500 - that doesn't seem logical.

I still have the 96 brochures somewhere, I can check tonight if you like.

ESP from 1996 was not possible, BAS came in in MY96, ESP came MY1998 so that would be mid 97 and these are MB words and it would have code 472A.

As said the Pano roof was only standard on the 600 after 1999 along with the wooden wheel

Your link is for an American spec:

1998 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class: Mercedes-Benz dropped the six-cylinder SL320, leaving only V8 and V12 models. Those added Brake Assist and a new Baby Smart feature that could recognize the presence of a child seat.

I have pretty much every brochure for the R129 - unfortunately they seem to contradict each other so going by what I've seen. They do all agree, however, that heated seats were a cost option on the SL60.

This is corroborated by the fact that Ian's car doesn't have them - nor do 95% of the SL60s that have been up for sale. Bill has forever been going on about it as his car doesn't either yet has ADS ;).

Doesn't make much sense when MBManInKen has just mentioned his '96 S500 had ESP?

Wood trim has always been standard on 600s. Attached a spec from '96 - ESP standard too.

Here's a '98 SL60 - no heated seats.

Starting to wish I'd bought that car actually!

Dealer's lost touch with the guy that bought it but has promised to contact me if it turns up again....I'll let you know...............:)

Though ESP did not become standard in the way we know it now until 1998 there was an early version with only one fault code, and the 129 seems to be the only car with it that I can find
