My 1997 SL500 only has ASR ... not ESP. ESP was a cost option (£846.60). As mentioned, it was only standard on the SL600 at that time.

Thank you for this post, that fits in with what I can find, it would appear to be a prototype that was used thenMy 1997 SL500 only has ASR ... not ESP. ESP was a cost option (£846.60). As mentioned, it was only standard on the SL600 at that time.
No, it doesn't.Your car doesn't have BAS either though does it Bill?
I've got two copies of the A4 hardback R129 SL range book:MB say that BAS was standard fro 1996
I think this thread proves you can't always accept what MB literature says ad verbatim - they contradict themselves in a number of areas.
I've got two copies of the A4 hardback R129 SL range book:
The 01/1996 one says "In the near future, all SL models will have the Brake Assistant (BAS) fitted as standard."
The 02/1997 one says "All SL models are fitted with Brake Assist (BAS) fitted as standard."
My 97 car was built at the end of 96 and obviously just missed out!
I'd rather have heated seats though![]()

ESP from 1996 was not possible, BAS came in in MY96, ESP came MY1998 so that would be mid 97 and these are MB words and it would have code 472A.
Your link is for an American spec:
Admittedly different countries have different standard specs
They do all agree, however, that heated seats were a cost option on the SL60.

MB say that BAS was standard fro 1996 and this had to come before ESP as ESP runs in BAS and not the other way around
Enough posts here Guido?
