Heated washer jets

I'm amazed, your roads must be very clean and salt free.

I used about 2 litres of washer just on the way to work this morning!!! How can one teeny weeny bottle of MB washer fluid last all winter?

Mine keep freezing and the mix must be at least 1:1, going for a near neat cocentrate next time I top up (soon!)

Sorry, I didn't mean one top-up lasts all winter (far from it - the roads are well manky at the moment). Foreach water fill-up during winter I use 1 pink bottle and 1/4 blue bottle then fill with water. The blue stuff stops the water freezing.

Screen wash bottle in our CLK has two heating elements in it - works absolutely fine. I've never heard of the jet nozzles being heated as well - will check tonight.

I'm not so sure about the effectiveness of the MB screenwash now, after using it for ages.

I say this because I seem to get through tons of the stuff this time of year, and I've noticed that it doesn't completely clean the screen 100%, and leaves a streaky finish. This is with a newish wiper blade.

The screen wash in my missus' car however, is a different story.

Think I'll be trying that next time. Its nowt special, the Decosol stuff you get from garages

Ohhh , very nice . Someone was obviously sniffing glue when they ordered your car. Thats about 100 quid.

Would have been much better spent on some brabus wheel centres :)

Oh. I got screen wash from MB last month for the 1st time and they sold me a couple of pink bottles. Is the blue stuff the winter mix then?

Yep. The bottle has 4 evenly spaced markers which tell you what temp protection you get for a specific volume of water. I find 1/4 per fill is fine. Your handbook may also have recommendations for how much Summer (pink) and Winter (blue) juice to put in - I can never be bothered looking it up.

fuzzer its a new car ! Comes as standard ! I've always ordered it anyway - makes sense with this country.

Greg E240 - try vinegar/water solution to clean the crap off the windscreen - rub it hard with a newspaper (seriously) - you'll have black hands, but then the screen will be sparkling, and your wiper blades will come back to life.

Got blue fluid now too, thanks.

Only MB could sell screenwash without the anti freeze agent included. I have heard it all now.

Might be a German thing, they're very hot on chemicals and the environmental impacts.

It seems to be one of those items which is just about as cheap as anywhere else. I am wary of using anything too cheap - I know the days of paint stripper washer fluid are probably gone, but as my healamp washers make the water stream all up my bonnet, I am a little more careful than I might otherwise be.

Thats a good point Graham, I had never considered the fact that the washers could and probably do wash up over the bonnet. I will need to read the contents of my screen washer bottle a little more closley.

Stuff out of costco is fine , £2.49 for 5 litres . Cleans to a sparkle and doesnt remove the paint. as my roof will testify to :)

I've just run low on water today so will fill up tomorrow, but I've been on nearly neat water for the last month and no problems at all. Yes there have been a few sub zeros.
My 210 has the heated washer jets tucked up under the trailing edge of the bonnet so I guess they stay warmer.

The headlamp washers are supposed to use MB fluid because of the polycarbonate lenses, but as I havn't emptied between services I don't get bothered. ;)

On the outside of my washer bottle are about 6 plastic clips that look like a ½ inch pipe could clip into. Such as an extension of the smaller bore cooling system pipe which runs nearby. This would warm the water in the bottle and help prevent it from freezing (Probably). Does anyone know what these clips are actually for?

Just spoken to MB the 208 has an extension to the cooling system which heats the water bottle. They believe that as the 208 is based on the 202 it should possible to do this mod!!! Shude where are you.......

Any CLK owners here got this??

I would prefer the powered heating element in the reserviour, it's not so cheap but very effective, available as an option on the w202 or standard if you ordered the car for certain countries.

Yes - I had it on all my previous CLK's. Its a standard fit UK item - if you don't have it I'd guess you have an import.....
