- W140 600 SEL
Hi all,
So after announcing my purchase of the '92 W140 600 SEL with a velour interior, I thought I'd best introduce myself formally.
So, hi
The 140 has been a dream car of mine since I first rode in one in Geneva in '93. I was 11 at the time and it was the most amazing taxi I'd ever been in. In fact, I don't think I've been in a taxi since that's topped it.
This is also my first Merc, after having owned two classic Volvos (242 GT, 262 C), two Citroens (CX - heaven, Xantia - hell), and two BMWs (both E36, 318iS coupe, 328i touring).
Of all of them, it's remarkable how similar the CX feels in spirit to the 140 (*ducks*) but there's something about the combination of isolation and control that marks these two cars out as remarkable things.
Anyway, the 140 has had an audit and an A Service and is now waiting for new spheres (loving the Citroen in my Merc), a rebuilt Bose amp from the states, some new brake pads and new leads and plugs.
Otherwise, the audit has found her mechanical condition to be commensurate with the 48k miles she's travelled.
So thanks to those of you who've helped out already. I hope we can continue as we've started.
Cheers,
Drew
