Hello everyone,

we were drving home this evening in our car ( 56 plate c220 ) when then check coolant light came on. luckily we were passing a garage so i picked some up...

Got onto the drive at home and the temps were at 80, but engine was smoking lightly.. parked up engine up and GUSH, must of been a litre of fluid out.. from a roudn looking area under the engine.

Dont want to move it and will get it to the indy on monday..any ideas in advance?

had BAD snow here last week or so and think back ive heard a slight hissing, like a pressure build up then release..

Thanks

Allen

Hi Allen

Sounds strange , did your motor overheat? Not too sure what may have caused it but feel for you mate.
Let us know how you get on with it.

it went from around 75ish to just above 80 but when i lifted the lid it was definatly smoking. Poured in the coolent and can see its dripping , hopfully something simple like a seal and not a head gasket.....

Could the smoke be steam? Maybe you didn't have enough antifreeze in the coolent? And its damaged a seal or something?

No it smells, I think there is a large leake somewhere onto a hot surface and thats creating the smoke/steam , the car was serviced mid october so I hope not.

I had a near Identical problem from a Cosworth I had. The temp light came on, I stopped and whoosh and released a lot of coolant from underneath. It turned out to be the waterpump.

I hope this is not your problem, but the weather had been exactly the same and recovered by the RAC and remeber freezing whilst waiting.

Hope all turns out well

Regards.

pricey?

At the time I was just glad that it was the waterpump and nothing major connected with the engine.

I am new to Mercedes and there is bound to be someone far more knowledgable in this area.

If you have not already done so. Check that the cap on your coolant header tank is fully tightened. If this was left loose/finger tight at the service the coolant pressure will force coolant past it especially when you come to a standstill after a longish run.

Could be a failing hose, small or no leak cold, and increases with pressure?

Let's hope so for you !!!!!!!

Regards

hose popped off, must have frozen.... when was the last coolant change?

Cant see anything obviously loose.
