Help getting money back from Prestige All Parts Ltd

Dronsfield also have very mixed reviews, it seems over the counter is ok but mail order...well....you may as well try predicting the lottery numbers

I had dealings with Dronsfield a few years ago - never again.

..and there is the rub in this. I have used Dronsfield's for many years, over the telephone and never once had an issue. This ranges from buying a complete C240 V6 engine (delivered next day) to buying a lock striker plate.

I bought a Power Steering pump from them and was suspicious of their claim that it was out of a nearly new car. I went ahead with the order and (I kid you not) it turned up looking like it was brand new.

My neighbour asked about buying a center console from them for his Concourse SLK. When he told them his car was concourse, they told him NOT to buy it, as it had wear & tear scratches in the paintwork. They offered to send him pics or to send it and he could return. That was two weeks ago.

I think we have seen the same with other traders on here where you do get absolutely polarised experiences.

What I would say is that I have taken and continue to take notice of experiences posted on here. So far I have not been let down.

Over the past few weeks I have bought lots of bits up to a full sportline interior from members on here. In every case I have been extremely pleased with my purchase and the fellow members attitude to dealing with me and others.

That is something that we (as a forum) should be very proud of and take confidence in.

directly accross the road from ... Dronsfield... I dont know if the 2 are related in any way but it seems awfully suspicious.

They share a similar approach to customer service, for sure

When dealing with companies I have no prior experience of, I always use a Credit Card, simply because of the Consumer Credit Act which protects me. Then if they play pot, let the credit card company chase them.

On the odd occasion when a company refuses to accept a credit card, insisting on a debit card, alarm bells start to ring. My primary mission in life is to protect me, not them.

If they play pot, just walk away. There are plenty of genuine dealers who do play ball.

I've had some interesting experience with Dronsfield. Some years ago they supplied me with an M112 engine that they told me had done 90,000 miles. When it arrived I was dubious to say the least. Some detective work with a mate at Mercedes traced the engine number back to a chassis number, and from the chassis number a service history at main dealer was revealed to have been comprehensive until 240,000 miles. When I confronted Dronsfied about this they refunded all my money and said I could either return the engine or keep/dispose of it myself. I elected to fit it and take a chance. The car is still running well today.
A couple of year ago I needed another M112 for a flood damaged car, and decided to give them a second chance. They supplied me with a decent engine, but warned me in advance that the starter motor would be on the other side. They included the other handed starter motor and a cable to fit to it too, everything needed to complete the job. It looked to me like it would never fit, but all slipped together perfectly.
Keep your wits about you and they are not too bad.

Having got to a stage in my life where I can do without credit cards ( if I can't afford something I do without ) , my technique for dealing with unfamiliar companies is to just start off with a few small orders and see how it goes . It doesn't usually take long to get a feeling for what people are like and if things go well then I will progress to higher value orders .

Of course , word of mouth from friends and feedback on places like eBay can go a long way towards establishing trust .

The op will get his money back no issue by filing a claim with the bank.
Wouldn't waste time with recorded letters and such unless you plan to go to court. Let your bank do the work.
I have to do this regularly as I buy a lot of second hand parts.. I cannot wait around if a company lets me down, I just buy elsewhere and let MasterCard sort it out!

There aren't many good breakers out there. Apart from used car dealers I bet they rank in the top 10 complained about businesses.

Although I have to say I have bought lots and lots from prestige and not had a real problem. Ok deliveries have been a day or two late on occasion.. and on one occasion an engine was faulty.. But they have always sorted the issue out.

I will continue to use them until I have issues myself.. Ive learnt not to let reviews on Internet bother me too much. For every one unhappy shouty customer there are likely 50 satisfied ones... Unfortunately not many of those ever feel the need to make their experiences public... And so Internet forums and other review websites just becomes all doom and gloom.

The only breakers I can say have always been totally trouble free for me are three pointed parts and Mercman. Always so helpful.
Sadly neither keep parts for newer/current models. Well not as much as the boys oop norf.

Im not 100% sure about this as i paid on my Debit card rather than Credit card, and i know that doesnt cover the same things or the same level of protection.

Having said that though, i did go to the bank yesterday and told them about it to see if they can maybe help. Although initially the lady told me its not the same protection as a credit card, she did make a few phone calls, took a lot of details down and said she would pass it on to their fraud Dept. to investigate to see if they can initiate a Chargeback and get my money back. :thumb:

Its not guaranteed but atleast i know they are trying.

Frustrating as it might be, but its not exactly a waste of time to take them to court and get my money back should the bank fail.

When possible I always elect to pay with PAYPAL as this seems to offer decent protection...most companies take paypal payments I think.
