Help needed, 3rd Brake light on SL R129

Could anyone tell me how to remove the third brake light on the boot lid of my SL 320.
I am looking at having the boot lid painted, maybe just the lens will come off but I can't see how and I am afraid to lever the lens out in case it breaks.

I thnk the only way is to prise off from the outside.
I did mine last year as the painter had scratched it when repainting boot lid.
I had a new replacement so wasnt too woried about breaking it - which I did.
From memory it has little integral clips all the way round both top and bottom so you need to gently prise a bit at a time until it starts to come away and you can then see the rest.
Good luck - its brittle so be careful.

Thanks Les, I thought the whole light had to come out, glad I can get away with just the lense. Although the painter may need the whole light out I will need to ask the question.

Don't they come out from inside? I know they do on W203's. I would think you have to remove any interior boot trim to access the complete fitting. Just my guess.

They have to come off from outside. Its cliped through the boot lid to the led lights. You can see that on the pics on the MB forum posted earlier.
Here some pics I took last night of my old lens. You can see the clips and get an idea of where to push and how many there are

Do you squeeze the clips together from the inside or just pry off from the outside ?
