Help needed, W126, headlamp washer / wipers

I thought I'd done a repair on the ns headlamp wiper that was not working. Both washers worked but only the os headlamp wiper operated. I needed to replace the ns headlamp lens so took the opportunity to dismantle and rebuild the wiper mechanism. The motor spun freely when it was out of the body and also when re-assemled (but not refixed to the car).

Having put everything back together, I was puzzled to find that neither wiper or washer now works!

Am I doing something wrong? Is there an obvious checklist for me to pinpoint where the problem lies?

Seems very strange . Only thing I can think of is to check power is getting to unit when you try to operate it .

In the past I have just replaced the complete wiper motor units with secondhand ones from scrapyards . Plenty of 126's breaking in yards hereabouts .
