This winter I fitted winter tyres onto my standard alloys on my E220 CDI SE. The summer tyres I took off are almost brand new.

So I thought I'd get some steel wheels for the winter tyres and put the summers back on the alloys. The steelies need to be the same size, 16x8 ET46.

Alloywheelsdirect wouldn't quote me because "the dealers are so cheap they can't compete".

MB dealer 1: "No, if you put 16" wheels on a new E class when it says you are doing 40 mph you'll be doing 30". I reminded him my car comes with 16" and he said he'd call me back....

MB dealer 2: "No, they can't be supplied for a 212". I asked about maybe 211 wheels. "No, you can't get steel wheels for a 211 either".

Anyone know if MB do 16x8 ET46 steel wheels suitable for a W212?

Clowns.

It'd be nice to have it confirmed but this looks like a steel wheel to me:

A2114000102 : DISC WHEEL 7.5 x 16 H2 ET 42 : £54.58

It's not the same width you were looking for but the tyres would fit on it.

mytyres have steel wheels in 16" for the w211. Dont forget to get steel wheel bolts as well.

Yes that is a steel wheel.

Submit a parts enquiry using the above part number on www.partsreunited.co.uk/ and see what price you can get 4 of the above.

Quite a few cheap sets of 16" e-class alloys on auction on ebay if you want to get a spare set of 16" alloys instead.

Thank you.

I shall arm myself with a rotating/squirting bow tie and the part number and call them back to get them ordered.

My only concern is that the steel wheel I listed is designed to fit a 211 and I've not personally confirmed that it would be suitable for a 212. If any wheels are shared 211 / 212 then it seems likely it would fit.

Just doing my own research before I order, it seems that the offset is incorrect for the 212. The list of approved wheel sizes for the 212 is here.

Unless I'm mistaken it's only out by 3.5mm which is hardly a huge amount :)

If someone can confirm that any wheel from the 211 fits the 212 without modification then I think we're on to a winner.

Looking at this thread, it seems they may fit (even using the same bolts). But trying to get confirmation off MB is impossible, since the offset is wrong (so officially they cannot be recommended).

The steel wheels I want have to be 7.5" (to fit my existing winter tyres) so will be 16x7.5 ET42 (W211 part).

The offset for the W212 in 16 x 7.5 should be 45.5. Not much difference (3.5mm), but enough to stop anyone from MB saying they are OK.

You're struglling and getting vague answers because there AREN'T any steel wheels available for the 212. Either purchase alloy wheels or buy a steel 211 wheel and test fit first.
