Hi, Newbie looking 4 an E Diesel questions.

Hi John,

You've put into words what I was wondering. There's a possibility this car is not to UK spec. If it was me, I'd walk away.

If the Classic was not available in the UK there must be some thing wierd about this cars origin.
I will walk away, there's alway another on Trader next week?
Thanks

You got in quicker than me. Good decision, there will be a better car along soon.:)

Just rang the guy, his dad ordered it in the UK with UK spec, through a broker. He went to Germany and collected it with UK plates already fitted. Now I've started asking he has become more knowledgeable and mentions that the spec is better than that of a the saloon Classic which was the only Classic available.

Keep looking for a car guys. PM me if you spot something that I don't.

In a way I'm hoping someone will wade in and say there was a 320CDI in UK spec, but I have the brochures\literature by my bedside.

I'm relieved you are giving this one second thoughts.

Good luck in your quest,
John

Just read your comment about the Classic only being available in saloon form??? That is WRONG. Many apologies if I have misunderstood you. Oh and any purchaser can collect their new Mercedes from Germany, it is a no cost option. :)

Hi G-A-R-Y,
As you can guess other members have kindly put the VIN number onto a Russian site that gives the information about the relevant vehicle.

You can now understand why I emphasised there was not a UK Classic 320CDI. I will not attempt to decipher the VIN information, but this is a scanned copy of a year 2000 UK price list for the E-class estate.

Note the engine sizes for the different models:

I have posted this just to allow you to see that I was not giving you false information.

The cost of the leather option when new was £1200.

Bye for now,
John

To be honest I just posted the full VIN information because I don't understand it enough to make intelligent comment :o :)

Peter.

:D I understand exactly where your coming from. I was under the impression the 320CDI did not reach American shores until 2005??? I stand to be corrected on that point so please treat it as more of a question, than a statement. Furthermore, why put a US spec engine into a European vehicle which would by location; use a far superior fuel? I won't start a debate over the differences in quality of fuels but the US stuff was YUK! Having said that then I suppose there might well be scientific reasons for doing this if indeed the information is correct.

Why up spec a Classic to the degree of this one? Why not simply buy either the Elegance or Avantgarde? Strange!

Regards,
John the curious
