Hidden or not very well documented "features" on your Mercedes ?

The need to put the car in park before you could remove the key completely foxed me in a VW recently! Couldn’t work out why the key wouldn’t come out of the ignition..

That got me the first time I drove to work in my first C43 in 2003. I was sitting in the carpark wondering what to do when a colleague walked past. He used to work in an MB dealership and pointed out what to do. Embarssing.

I was in two minds about the column shifter on my E-class but now I love it and miss it when driving other cars. E.g. the ease of flicking the car into reverse without letting go of the wheel when parking.

It works really well and frees up loads of space in the centre console. I was familar with the idea from US hire cars so fell in with it straight awayin the Merc,

Although having said that I the first time I came across one was when I'd hired a Chevvy Lumina in 1990 or to get me from DC to New Orleans and it totally floored me.

Before that I'd only seen column shifts in 60's barges and never actually used one.

Just uploaded 'Volume 2' to my channel: :)

Nice vid, good tips.
I think the fame is getting to you though, you got your trunks, bonnets and boots in a jumble! On 1st tip you say ‘boot, or bonnet as they say in America’. :wallbash: :D
Not criticising, just didn’t know if you’d realised.

In the tip about the boot floor, your blue intro screen says "boot/truck", not "boot/trunk".

Not sure if it's common knowledge, but I've only just noticed this after 2.5 years!

With the sunroof open 'on tilt', at a certain speed (around 50mph) the tilt reduces for better aerodynamics. Then opens up again when you slow down (around 40mph).

Kinda cool for a while, but then can get a little annoying on a winding road :D

This being my 2nd cls with Apple play I’ve only just found out today that a ‘long press’ on the talk button activates Siri even if it’s it’s not connected with the cable[emoji1] .......Siri read texts, reply etc[emoji106]

On the 2015 CLS,
and I imagine any other with the newer screen that has the ability to play DVD’s/usb media.
No key is required in the ignition to play a dvd, just press the media button and the dvd will start to play from where it left off.

For thourner
“Yeah I saw that. I don't believe it though, it wouldn't get it hot enough to re-flow solder.”

True, it won’t re-flow solder but IT MIGHT cause the metal connections to expand enough to cause it to work temporally, as it did for the OP in my link below.

Summer opening feature no longer works (windows)

Give it a go with the hair dryer; it may reveal that it is indeed the solder connections that is the cause of the fault.
Don’t forget to let us know how you get on, thanks.

Ironically, my "summer opening" feature seems to work much better in the summer (when I need it), and fails to work in the winter (when I'm just playing).

I think you missed my point.

It is the summer opening feature for cars with Keyless Go (an additional method). Definitely, for my car the windows will only open halfway.

Of course I have the summer opening feature with the remote (IR blaster). By using the remote the windows do fully open.

It would be good if someone else with a W219/W211 car (Keyless Go) test this out as well, for interest. Probably different set up for some models.

I'm sorry if this has already been posted.
This is for Mercedes from the 70's 80's and early 90's. Maybe before and even after those years for all I know.
If you want to keep the boot lid open for long periods but don't want to drain the battery, go to the switch pin on the boot lid and pull it until it clicks. That will switch the boot light off. A very simple but effective feature that is not mentioned in any of the owners manuals.

Another tip for the same period of Mercedes. If the boot lid is filling up with water, either through leaks or condensation, which then pours out all over the boot contents when the lid is opened. There is a drain hole on the left hand side of the lower boot lid that has a rubber bung fitted. Remove that bung and the water simply drains away before it has a chance to build up. Whether Mercedes knew this moisture issue would be an issue in the future so added this drain to future proof its cars, or it's simply a happy coincidence, we will probably never know. But the fact that the internal frame of the lids seems to be angled so the water drains to the left makes me think it was designed in.
It's those little over engineered details that make me love this period of Mercedes-Benz so much.

I found the summer opening feature not only winds down all the windows but removes the entire roof too and stows it in the boot whilst turning on the cooled seat! I don't have keyless go though and I have to use the key to start the engine[emoji41]

Noticed something today for the first after six months of ownership of an S205 350e. In park or neutral, if you press the throttle, the E-Drive meter indicates even though the motor is not running

Got that in my video, was up to the W210 :)

I haven't read all the manual and maybe it's in there somewhere, but today after reading these threads I thought I would hold the unlock button to see what happens.

Well, the convertible roof opens completely and the windows go down. Chuffed! :)

I’ve got a brake hold function, had the car four years and just found out, I need an owners handbook to explain the owners handbook!

Discovered today while cleaning.
Rescue 'QR' code sticker on the passenger side door jamb.

If you have an iPhone (may work with others) use the camera to focus on the QR code and it can take you to the website.

One can be retro fitted to post 1990 vehicles.

Some details here:
The rescue sticker from Mercedes-Benz.

Not a feature, but I found out today that the IWC Schaffhausen Ingenieur clock on my dash is £4k if you buy it in watch form!! Wonder how much MB pay for them.

That works on our C350e with just COMAND too - seems to be an iPhone integration rather than CarPlay specific thing?
