Thank you everyone for your help, happy to report I have now managed to get the wires through safely 
Went to Parkham Garage this morning to have the fog light surrounds replaced, and Nick was kind enough to help with removal of the glove box, under which I found a suitable grommet.
It looks like my [long in the making] DRL mod is finally nearing completion ...
Lights are in place, as is the RF-shielded controller box, and all the wiring in the engine bay.
Tomorrow I shall fit an override switch and connect everything up ... :bannana:
