How do you remove the gear shify knob ?

Hi Folks,

Can anyone tell me how to remove the gearshift knob on a auto W202 ? (It's the leather knob I'm talking about)

I can't see anything obvious that holds it in place, and I didn't want to force it incase the whole thing including the shifter came off !!!

The collar on the bottom turns something like a 1/4 turn, then it just pulls off upwards IIRC.
