how rubbish is a hummer?

In a book I have somewhere on my shelves describing the history of the land rover it says that in the first Gulf War the American special forces were so impressed with the capabilities of the Land Rove rin comparison to the Humvee that, upon return, they demanded they be equipped with them and an order was duly placed.

Apparently, the Humvee is so heavy it kept sinking in the sand.

Keep in mind that its wind profile is so huge that shifting sands would bury it in no time.

Hummers are such strange cars. Its a bit like a Russian or Chinese female body builder in make-up and a mini-skirt.

For really tough off road work Land Rovers do have the edge but people who do serious off roading mod them in many ways and it is possible to do the same to a Land Cruiser.

I think this is a key strength of the Land Rover. The "meccano" style bodywork lends iself to cutting, chopping and general modding very easily. You want to lose 5 inches from the rear wings? A few hours with a hacksaw, file, grinder and welder and you would hardly know the thing was ever longer.

It's the same for mechanical mods. Putting a different engine in is comparatively simple and - tying up with Brian's thread - when you get them wet you just turn the hose on the interior. Lovely.

The american are impressed with land rovers.good.
the reason they are having problems is because the enemy is using toyotas.
They are impressed with LR because the have not seen a land cruiser in action.

LAMO :)

As an aside, one thing has to be said. The Aussies usually do things very well when it comes to their military. Worthy of note is their "Land Rover" type vehicle. Its called the Perentie, comes in 4 x 4 and 6 x 6.

Something about the styling rings a bell me think ?

However, the LR's achilles heel is removed by replacing the engine and slotting in an Isuzu Diesel. The way forward perhaps ?
