Hi,

I have just bought a Merc C220 CDI 51 reg (2001)

The computer is telling me check engine oil, unless im totally thick there is not a dip stick,

Help would be much appreciated.

Cheers
:)

Scroll down on the menu on the instrument cluster and it will measure it for you.

If it says add 1 litre. Add 1/2 a litre and re-check in 5 mins.

Oil level check is done on the steering wheel buttons.
Do not start the engine.
Level ground
make sure the panel is showing mileage.
with the ignition on flick through the left hand buttons until you come to oil level check it will measure itself and report back through the display. OK or add x amount
If you want to know what it is in litres,
Ignition in pos 1
press reset buttons 3 times quickly
flick throu l/h steering wheel buttons til you come to display which shows oil or oel(german)
turn ign key to pos 2
the display will show amount in litres ( not sure how accurate)
switch ignition to off to reset.
Think I've got it right from memory,

My Vito also has a dedicated button on the instrument panel, which is quicker than selecting through the menus. But I don't know if this is present on other M-Bs ... hence the suggestion to look in the handbook.

Was this car bought privately or from a garage? If the latter I'd be fairly concerned about a low oil level warning coming up so soon.

I must admit, I was a little confused when the dispaly advised me to add 2 quarts:crazy: half a gallon, then realised it may be refering to US gallons, I hope, still half a gallon but not such a big gallon:D :D There was something wrong, cause when I checked it 5 mins later all was ok.

If it's an early W203 like mine then.

The process is slightly different to enter the engineering menu:
Key in pos 1,
ensure mileage/trip is displayed
hold down the reset button for 2 mins until you hear a beep
turn key to pos2
now you are in the engineering menu, and it will display the exact oil quantity.

IIRC the fill is 6.5 so you want the display to show 6-6.2 ideally.

How to check oil level

HI,can anyone help me,my mercedes c 220 when i drive is showed me /check oil level, reduced oil level/and i cant do nothing,is show me onli reduce, nothing more,no liters, nothing.how i can see how much i have to put in.please someone help me.

You must definitely reduce the level asap.
Following a service by an Indy in London 2 years ago, the car was terrible to drive and after 30 mins I got the 'reduce oil level' message.

On the following day, my local (non Merc) garage drained the oil, measured it and refilled it with the correct amount.
