HOWTO: Pollen filter removal - W202

If for whatever reason you decide you want to take your pollen filter out, here is how to do it :)

1. Take the plastic ventilation cover off the underside of the dashboard on the passenger side. It looks like it's held on with a screw, but it's a plastic clamp, turn it a quarter turn and the vent will pop out.

2. Take the three screws out from the cover over the underside of the glovebox. Remove the whole panel.

3. The cover under the pollenfilter is held on by two plastic slides, push them out towards the ends of the cover and it will come away from the box.

4. The filter slides out more easily (and goes back the same way) if it's rotated out.

5. Here is the filter, also pictured with some of the bits that came off earlier :)

If you want to put it all back together again, read this thread backwards :)

I wondered where the filter was last time i had the passenger side underdash trim off and coudn't see it.

Never thought it went in that way!!

Thanks :)

PS. I'm not touching mine though incase my MAS breaks :D

yeah . . . it must have been your K&N pollen filter that caused the fan to temporarily give up . . . . never mind all this leaves nonsense !

You know I never considered a low resistance, high performance pollen filter. Now there's a mod :)

I know - I'd better be careful with the creative imagination!!

I don't want to be the one held responsible when his new and innovative inventions go horribly wrong !! :)

A lower resistance filter would mean you could make more use of the air produced by the fan at a lower speed. Running at a lower speed would put less drain on the electrical system, meaning more power at the engine end I'm sure. Prolly a good performance mod surprisingly enough ;)

If you want hair brained schemes...

How about a method of feeding ice cold air from the a/c system into the engine air intake? Now that would significantly increase power ;)

You could have it activated via a power boost switch :p  So in normal operation a/c works normally and with the switch activated the a/c goes to max cold setting, the fan turns to max speed setting and the air is routed to the engine intake. Hey presto... an intercooler :p

hi

Im having nasty smells it seems coming from either inside or outsite = do you think this filter needs changing?

i have a cclass c220tdi, would it be in the same place do you know?

thanks for the great description by the way :)

prob a combination of both the filter and the general air con system needing a good detox

Get a can of the Comma aircon cleaner and use it in the car. You can get it from Halfords. You simply stick it in the back footwell and with the engine running and ac on full blast release the contents into the car and keep it going as per instructions, then air the car out.

Clears out the odurs from the vents.

You have bacteria built up on your AC system.

You need an anti bacterial spray, sprayed in the apropriate places.

do all w202 have the luggage net as mine hasnt got one?

do all w202 have the luggage net as mine hasnt got one?

Facelift ones should have them as standard. If not they are available from your local dealers for around £14 (in 2004 - prob about £88 now ;) )

Is this just a straight swap or does the new one need preparing?
Anti bacteria spray, or anything else? and how do you clean the vents?
Do you just vacuum or spray anti bacterial in them?
Thanks

Hi,
For your information, not sure of the price of the "luggage net" but the Pt. No.'s are,
Net, A2108140007 X1.
clips for the net, A2208140007 X5.

Any chance of getting the photos back on this page?
