HOWTO: Retrofit facelift wheel/cluster to pre-facelift W210/W208

thank you !

I have bought Steering wheel (it comes E210)

I have SRS Ring – 210 460 0049 and Airbag -A210 460 06
i have Yellow SRS connector with five pins, attaches to back of SRS ring as above

my Cluster – A208 540 29 11 but not amg version

and i have connected the wires

pin 3 SRS ring to pos 18
pin 2 SRS ring to pos 15
pin 1 SRS ring to pos 14
wire Violet from existing 4 pin SRS connector
wire Green from existing 4 pin SRS connector

questions :

- really need the cluster amg ?
in fact is it possible using my cluster w208 1999 ?

what's the diffrerence of wiring or electronic between my cluster and an cluster amg ?

- how to run the horn ?
i have connected the existing wire of my car on my old 4 pin connector (as told in the tuto here) to N1 on my cluster (whose haven't the connector) but uthe horn is not efficient

thank you very much for you help !

greats regards
Philip

You have to modify the connector on the new clock spring as you have more wires. No it doesn't have to be an AMG cluster or steering wheel.

hI !

Thank you for your help :thumb: and your perseverance !

You tell me that i have to modify the connector on the new clock spring.

> I have the good part inner SRS Ring – 210 460 0049 and i have only replaced inner part

And i have respected diagram as this picture here :

But the color on wire is different on my old 4 pins cionnector :
i have a brown/black pin 2 on the old connector
and it is writen as yellow wire(Yellow/Black from horn connector to pos N1)

where is my error please ??:fail

AND Have to I activate menu to run this modification of my original cluster ?

greats regards
philip

Can you think that the programmation is necessary TO REGISTER THIS MODIFICATION ?

with MBSTAR C3 for example (that i haven't :doh::eek:)?

It is perhaps my error to have an efficience of this modification.

:dk: answer of electronic specialist ?? please

hello!
Do you know if only fitting the facelift steering wheel is possible? I heard the horn wouldnt work, but there are ways to make it work. I have a 1996 E230. thank you

Helppp pleasees, Ive made all the connections!!!!!! Only the light at the buttons work, at least nothing. Help meeee, I dont know what to do anymore

Hello!

I have a 2000 W208 CLK 230 Kompressor, pre-facelift.
I can get a W208 (also a CLK 230 K) facelift instrument cluster and steering wheel. Would this be a direct fit for my pre-facelift version?

By the way, the only difference would be the transmission. Mine is manual and the donor would be automatic.

Hi, i have make this procedure but dont work the steering weel with the instrument.. please halp me..

I had a facelift cluster with old wheel in the car and it worked. i also put the old cluster and new wheel in the car also and it worked.

obviously without the matching pair you either cant control the cluster (no steering wheel buttons) or you have the buttons but no cluster to control.

but it should still work. The cluster is "plug and play" without any wiring changed iirc if you are keeping the standard wheel.

the other way round you need to change the airbag ring so the horn works, apart from that you dont HAVE to connect up the wiring for canbus from the steering wheel buttons.

it was 2005 when i did this so the is all IIRC.... i may be wrong!!!!!!!!!
Does this mean that in the case of putting just the facelift steering wheel to a pre-facelift car the SRS ring will remain the same? Or the inner part of the SRS ring should be swapped for the one from facelift in order to have the horn and airbag working?

Its been a while since i did this, i am pretty sure inner ring and outer ring both need changing.

Hi, I'm trying to revive an older topic...
I retrofitted facelift gauges, including the steering wheel, into a W210 290TD (manufactured 05/97). Everything works well, and I used Star to set the gauges to OM602 (originally from OM613). The only problem I'm dealing with is the error "Engine oil sensor, visit workshop." It appears a few seconds after turning the key, even if the engine is not started. It seems that the gauges are prepared for more modern oil sensors, and they lack this information as OM602 has a simple oil sensor. Has anyone dealt with this issue? I've tried everything in the Star configuration, replaced the sensor, but nothing helps. Thanks :)
