Conversely people assume everything is a bargain - often see merc parts and computer bits going for more than you can get them online. We made some proket money once selling Harrop Camberwick green figures, that were fetching £30+ on ebay and only $15 retail in our local shop.

Once saw an IKEA lampshade on Ebay that sold for £25.00. At IKEA, same lampshade was selling in the shop, for £15!! Go figure!!

Im sorry but I too think it is extremely petty to take off car tax as its just hassle to replace straight away and a real plus for getting more for your older car!
I once travelled 300 miles to buy a used Porsche 911 for £36000 left a deposit and the seller phoned me the next day to say he decided to keep the tax 3 months which annoyed me beyond belief so I said include the text or forget the deal then he refused to give me back my £1000 deposit
I told him unless I had my deposit back within a week His Porsche would be modified with a petrol can and a match ! the Tosser
Igot my deposit back

I just would not buy a car If the seller said he was cahing in the tax ?

OK you said car did not include tax you are within your rights

but me and every person I had this conversation with is of the same opinion I would steer well clear of someone selling a car and cashing tax in
Loads of hassle for buyer and if seller that tight what have they cut corners on servicing etc!

a £36000 porsche which had tax on when you handed over a deposit and traveled 300miles to view is hardly a comparable with a £740 car advertised with no tax that the buyer never travelled further than their pc to bid on,,,is it???

im getting the feeling people keep adding their opinions here without actualy reading the whole thread. I dont actual care now anyway, but the original post was a vent, i know i was right and anyone who says i wasnt is wrong

I've just caught up with the thread again, and I really do think people need to read it through.
The car was clearly sold with no tax
Mike offered the winner a discount on the tax when she pressed him.
She isisted she could only afford £10 for the tax (so what happens in three months then?)
She told Mike he could resell the car if he wanted.
Now, perhaps it is because both Mike and I have been in the trade, (in my case 30 years ago) but I have NEVER seen a car sold with tax included - the first thing we used to do was cash in any remaining tax if the owner had not done this.
However, as for the 35k Porsche, I too would feel hard done by if the 3 months tax was cashed in.
As Pontoneer quite rightly says, at this end of the market, every pound counts - both for buyer and seller. Sub £1000, and it is unreasonable to expect the seller to 'throw in' any tax, and is a bonus to get a discount on it.
Anyway, her loss=my gain. This is what she missed out on.

What's spoiled the whole of the last post for me, where the car looked great and well and truly at home, was the attitude of your dog, Ted. 'ave a word!!!!!!!!!

Ted - is that the original registration?

this was the original reg. All cars registered in barrow in furness were "eo"

Very nice motor.. I remember now seeing this on ebay and was very tempted... But another right hander for me doesn't make sense..

Anyhow.. Well done Ted..... :-)

lookin at the motor i have to say i'd have stumped up the £50. that's a peach.

The original auction winner will be feeling gutted..

didnt want to resurrect this thread really, but the saga has taken a freaky turn.
For those who've followed this thread, you'l know I filed a non payment dispute last friday (7 days after the end of the auction). I then start getting messages from the winning bidder saying she was now willing to pay the full amount plus what id asked for the tax. I decided just to ignore her, she had her chance, messed me around, so tough. I got another message monday saying she wanted to come on tuesday, so i responded and said id sold the car to someone else because she'd told me she'd understand if I re listed it. She now keeps sending me messages via the dispute, saying i had no right to sell the car, that i was legally bound to sell it to her, that shes going to report me to ebay etc etc, non of this bothers me,,BUT,,then she sends me this via the normal ebay messaging

Dear mikeouk,

Very simple I have lost out because you have breached the contract, and as
for wanting the car I wanted the car enough to make an 80 mile around trip
on friday to find the car had gone and there was a porsche parked in its
place, anyway thats life, we will draw a line under it and let ebay do the
talking.

:eek::eek:so she actually drove to my house on friday, even though she didnt have a clue if id be there or not and without contacting me first. Is it just me or is this not just plain weird and shady?? why would she do that? was she hoping to look at the car without my knowledge? its even crossed my mind she'd come to steal it,,im freaked out that this person who is obviously off centre has been to my house without me knowing.

Perhaps it was a just to see whether the car was actually gone before deciding how to deal with it as a dispute.

No,thats not it, she must have been here before the dispute was started, and just because the car wasnt here ,doesnt mean id sold it, i have a garage so it could have been in there. If she came with the intention of paying for the car, then surely she would have rang me either before or when she was here.

She sounds like a real chancer to me. AFAIK she initially wanted your car with free tax. She then called your bluff saying you could relist the car, which effectivly you did by advertising it on this forum. Now she's back-peddling but should know the deal the gone from her grasp.

She took her chance and lost out. Sadly for you a classic Ebay time waster.
You've my sympathies.

I had a similar experience, although nothing to do with the sale of a car. I actually contacted Ebay they had the negative feedback removed, if you can back up all the history of the discussions & prove she is in the wrong, they will have no issue removing her feedback.

Good luck, I agree totally, such a pain when people mess you around.
