I have inside information that the speed cameras on the M25 (J10-15) are being upgraded this weekend from analogue to digital. This basically means that the "Triger Point" has decreased from 93 MPH to 80 MPH. Hope this helps prevent some unwanted points! ;)

80mph will get a LOT of people.

Luckilly I am too scared to speed on a motorway now.

Drivers that use the M3 towards the M25 go much faster than me , and I do 75-80 it seems that they get used to that high speed and carry on along the M25 doing the same speed

 fools:eek:

If the variable limit is say 40 does it trigger at a %age above or a set figure (determined how?) - and as for the 70mph limit, why a 80mph trigger? Doesn't it follow guidelines which would therefore be 79mph?

I am curious

thanks, when can you do that speed on the M25????

Any time between 8pm and 6am..:-)

I live by J6 - you can fly round to J10 I then just roll a 70mph or whatever speed the signs say.

It probably follows the guidelines for any limit, and we don't know the trigger at 70mph isn't 79mph as opposed to 80mph.

I'm always perplexed why the variable limit cmeras on the M42 are single point cameras as opposed to Specs devices.
I always either set the limiter or CC and stick to the limit but many drivers race between the cameras then jam the brakes on.

Thank goodness for speedtronic...................phewwww

When ever I try to use the M25 I'm more likely to get a parking ticket than a speeding ticket....
I live an hour and half away from the M25 and do I really want to be any closer?
Cars need space!

This info. gets circulated regularly e.g.
Caution whoever uses the M25.

Just heard about this from Surrey Police.

The variable speed cameras on M25 between A3(J10) and M4(J15) are being taken over by a private company at begining of february.

The cameras will be set at 80mph (presently 100mph) when not on variable and 10% + 3mph when on variable (they are digital cameras).

(dated 11/04/2006)

Warning to M25 Motorists If you are a driver then this is important! Even if you aren't you know people who are, so it is still important!

There are 60 new cameras that started operating on the M25 on Monday 14 June. These are between the A3 and M40. They are digital and linked direct to computer, use no film or flashgun. They can deal with 60,000 tickets EVERY HOUR. The cameras are also (apparently) linked and can work out your average speed between them. So, if you speed up between them and slow down as you approach them, if your average speed is over the "legal limit+N%" threshold you may well get a ticket.

same here don't use it that often but when i have 40mph is usually top speed for me if i'm luck:(

What about when a lower speed is in operation, how does that work?
This infomation may be out of date, but it does come from a very reliable source.

The variable speed limit cameras only operate at 50 and below (not at 60 or NSL or when the signs are turned off).

Although I've not personally tested this.

Anyone using the M3 to get to the M25 may care to note that today saw one car pulled over by an unmarked white Skoda (lots of blue lights but no other markings) and another by a silver Skoda also unmarked. It's not just cameras nowadays.

Speeding was not my problem today. Drove from Lymington to Mitcham in Surrey to collect a daughter, and then drove straight back. The 200 mile round trip took just over 6 hours (journey time excluding stops) at a fun-filled average of 34 mph. And how many more people are we letting in per year to crowd the roads even more? Madness.

Using the M3 everyday, I can confirm that this is a common sight; unmarked Skoda Octavia pulled up on hard shoulder with blue lights flashing having pulled over some unsuspecting driver. I've seen a Silver one and a Green / Black one, take care!
