Hi folks. I wonder if any of you have come across this issue before. I removed the engine cover today after getting the smell of exhaust fumes in the car and where the injectors and wiring all sit i had a melted mess of plastic. It seems its had an injector leak for a while (ive recently bought it. 400 quid) and the 3rd injector in from the front is spitting out diesel. i think its get very hot and possibly had a little fire and melted the plastic trim along the rocker cover. will have to replace the wiring, wring housing and see whats up with the injector. would it be a seal or possibly a broken injector? Thanks in advance

"Black death" very common, not a hard fix for a good indie, it will require the mess cleaned up and the injector removed, then the seat for the injector seal needs re-cut and a new copper seal and stretch bolt from merc, only about 3 or 4 quid and all put back together.

I've heard once this happens it then happens again and again and again!!!

I hope I never come across anything like it, most likely their will have be combustion at some point so the mess will have to be cleaned up before anyone goes any where near to taking out the injector.

If it is a case of a leaky injector then the good news is it will have loosened the injector and wont take any time taking it out. However I would check the metal pipes going to the injector from the fuel rail as this could have been caused from a leek at the joins. best way to find out is to start it up and have a look, but from my experience any drop in pressure will cut the engine.

If the seat is properly re-cut then it should prevent the problem happening again, at least for a long time, many people just clean it up and replace the seal and stretch bolt and with only that it wont last long.

If done properly then it will last a long time. My advice is if you are not confident after reading many threads, pay a good indie to do it. There are problems that can be encountered like bolts snapping which they will know what to do with.

last thing you want is a scrap head

+1

Get a good indie to do it, its not hard if you have the right tools, roughly take about 2 hours
