Instrument display problem C class 2004

Hi All,
Went to start car today and the instrument display is completely dead. No gauges, no dials and no clock.
Also the steering wheel controls have stopped working.
Went for drive, half a mile and back and some lights appeared on display namely SRS and Lim. Indicators seem to be working but no clicking sound.

Have'nt had time to check anything at moment due to persistent rain.
Hoping it's just a fuse or something simple as I can't really do major DIY.
Radio and CD ok but as above no control from steering wheel.

Any advice appreciated

You need to remove power to the cluster for a few mins and see if this fixes it. It is possibly easier to undo the ground terminal on the battery (make sure you're undoing the ground, remembering that on german cars BROWN is negative. Leave off for 2 mins and try again

Cluster translates the steering wheel controls onto the CANbus for the radio to see, so thats why it is broken. Changing clusters is not DIY, you need Star Diagnosis.
