Insurance is a JOKE

My renewal for the 32 has come through this morning, and it's gone up

By 89 pence !

I'm with the RAC, and I won't even bother shopping around this year

One of the best results I’ve heard of!

Insurance from Aviva for RAV4 gone up from £194 to £206 but including Free Legal Cover as a promotional offer this year ( didn’t take it up last year ) so a good result .

I pre-empted the expected large increase in my renewal for the CLS by getting quotes on the comparison websites a week ago, The cheapest was almost double last year's. So I resigned myself to the impending hike. Received the renewal quote from my existing insurer today; an increase of 12 quid over last year (now £235, with vehicle breakdown). Go figure 🤷‍♂️

It’s not just car insurance that’s a joke. I recently needed to get travel insurance for a family visit to the USA later this year. Being an old fart (77), I have to accept that my travel insurance more than competes with that of a 20 year old‘s insurance for an AMG.

After checking the price for annual cover for the family (me, together with my much younger wife and daughter), I decided to see if it would be cheaper for me alone and my girls on a separate family cover. The ladies are also taking a couple of other trips in the coming months, so I also looked into single trip insurance just to cover my couple of weeks in the USA.

It turned out that the single trip cover for me was actually more expensive than annual cover (including the USA) for the whole family! No prizes for guessing which cover I bought.

I renewed my insurance and the cheapest renewal quote was gbp1k. I've never made a claim in my life and that car has 3 years NCB. I was looking to replace it for a s213 e63 and the lowest quote is 1.37k without legal or breakdown cover. Wtgdaf
I thought the v8 m3 vert I was looking at had extortionate insurance at gbp 750 but this is madness for a car with a insurance valuation of around 10k ! Ffs I'm vexed.

My mistress was bad enough getting me to pay her deposit on her flat for 1k but at least I get something in return , this is just pure daylight robbery 😵‍💫

Relax slim.

Are you with AVIVA by any chance? I think they have been great with renewals!

On a separate note, I run an insurance quote for an AMG GT and came back half of a C43 AMG which is worth 1/3 of the GT! These insurance groups don't mean absolutely anything nor does the price of the car. Insurance companies all they seem to care about is third party liability.

I would imagine it’s the risk weighting that is determining the difference in premium in this case, rather than the insurance group. Statistically this insurance company believes that the C 43 is a greater risk than a GT for your particular circumstances.

Buy a 5+ year old one and the VED will cost buttons on the GT too.

Hi , Is insurance in general in the government shopping basket ?

When you have a cabinet member has to resign because his salary is to small to pay his mortgage !

What is the real UK inflation rate but I am it's not what advertised.

From the economic perspective, there's no such thing as 'real' inflation.

Different thing go up or down in price according to different factors.

The 'basket' is - to some extent - arbitrary.

If you don't have a car, then the increased costs of running a car won't affect you at all. And, if you have a company car, then only a small part of the increased in cost will be transferred to you. Etc.

Equally, if you have a car and never use public transport, then the increase in public transport fares won't affect you at all.

And, if you are renting, you don't care about mortgages, while if you have a mortgage you won't care about the cost of renting.

The list is long. Motor insurance is the same.

No I'm with Quote Me Happy. My other half is with Aviva though & she received her renewal quote yesterday, an increase of £4, so even better than mine of £12.

They cant do that anymore.....its the law......so instead of everyone paying the same price as the new customer (which was the idea) now everyone pays the same higher price as the current customer.....great law introduction that was!!

Tell that to my insurers - an outfit that specialises with over 50s.

Renewal on wife's car came through . I bettered it WITH THEM like for like on a comparison site by over £100. A bit of negotiating got it down to that price.
Two months on, my car renewal was almost £300 more than the comparison site ! They matched that and knocked a bit more off as well .
It may be the law but......

I’ve heard of several examples like that. Same person, same car, same details, but the renewal price is more expensive than the quotes they receive directly from their insurer - or through a comparison site - when quoting as if it’s new business.

When you factor in the introducers fee for comparison sites or brokers, then the difference between repeat/renewal and new business premium is even greater.
