Insurance is a JOKE

Well Aviva have not been very good to me this time round they want nearly £100 more for the coming year,so have hit the comparison sites, and Go Compare have quoted £60 more but with 2x£10 vouchers at Shell garages so just £40 so I have gone with them,Direct line wanted £250 more and others were around £150 more, just one minor worry the insurance company is called Go Skippy

You do wonder how many creative lunches, focus groups and branding workshops they went through (all at nil cost that they obviously don't then have to recoup through higher premiums) to get to 'Go Skippy'....

Was myself at an insurance industry motor workshop this week and the genuine costs increases were discussed.

And here's one.....

Body shop wages used to be in the £20ks....

They are now in the £40ks for experienced guys (and girls)

Those able to work on high end EVs can be in the £50k or even £60k !

Training needed but also skills and labour shortages are behind it.
Knock on effect means the K2K time is up (Key 2 Key) a fair amount as they cannot repair as many as quickly.

They are desperate for people, even apprentices.

I know a painter on £60k!

Also, you have to keep a 15m gap around damaged EVs in the yard until the battery pack has been assessed for damage and instability.
Where you can store 100 cars, you can only store 8 EVs
That hits efficiency and furthermore cost.

Am dreading my June Multicover renewal for 4 cars and the house

Mine changed from £480 to £690 when I changed from my mini to my CLC. I know that the Mercedes is bigger and more expensive than the mini, but the parts are probably not. Any claim over £500 would probably result in a right off, so I‘m hardly likely to claim, so the thread probably explains the increase. I hope it doesn’t do the same next year.

Just had my renewal quote in for the A35 which is with Aviva. Last year it was £342, this year it is £446 so an increase of £104 with no changes. I'll be doing some comparisons but I don't think I'll get it any cheaper.

Unwanted but that’s not so bad as many have found.

I think insurance premiums may have softened a little in December and January. Recent comments seemed to be about smaller increases than say August to November.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with that to be honest and was quite surprised as I was expecting a huge hike. My brother has a C300d and his jumped from £600 to £1200.

We got a really good quote last year for both our cars. Renewal is up by 75%. No change in circumstances from last year.

So being phlegmatic on the basis that last year's price was a bit too good. I'd say that that from what we expected to pay last year it's an increase of about 33%. So that's still not great.

However looking at alternative new quotes - all are a lot higher than the renewal. And in particular the Direct Line Group companies I've looked at (Privilege and Chrchill) are provideing quotes that are over twice what other companies are quoting direct or via comparison sites.

For a laugh I tried Third Party Fire and Theft . And that tells the usual story of being higher than Comprehensive. This should be looked at by Trading Standards because if the insurance companies are claiming increased costs of hire cars, increased cost of repairs, and so on then one would expect on a like for like pricing basis that there should be a tangible discount for choosing TPF&T in a genuinely competitive market.

My view is that there has been a bit of impact from inflation but what we're seeing is down to two factors - one is the renewal charging rules which has reduced churn and competition for new business (arguably it is working if renewals are more competitive than new policies - but at the same time if it may be affecting new policy pricing adding its own distortions to the market). The second is that Direct Line Group - which covered several brands offering basically the same policies at different price points - seems to have backed off in terms of pushing prices.

I think the market needs a proper investigation - the TPF&T pricing looks like a form of market rigging.

Third-party car insurance is often more expensive because historically insurers have seen higher risk drivers taking out these policies who are more likely to make a claim.....

.......is the official line.....

But its nothing new. I had a V6 Capri when I was 18 (like to see a teenager insure a 3.0 V6 nowadays!)...fully comp and tpft were quoted at EXACTLY the same price. I remember my dad being amazed. Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure it was £140! That was in 1985.... but that was a lot compared to what I earned. I've had NCD ever since.....39 years worth.... and my insurance is still too much for an old derv!

That’s because you’re packing 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) between 2,500 and 3,750!

Just got my first renewal for the fleet, up from £397 to £614 but with a 50/50 fault claim from May.

Did not think they did 50 50 claims any more....it can only really be one person's fault.

Lol.... not quite....360 N⋅m (266 lb⋅ft) at 1,750 rpm without the map....425nm with..... even stock that's way more than a 156 at the same revs..... in fact the 156 does not make that much until its spinning at about 4000 revs. Forced induction FTW!
