Hi,

I deleted internet connection wizard from my sons computer and now be needs it to re setup his broadband connection. I ran windows setup but it didnt install it again. Any ideas please!

have you deleted the internet connection wizard or just the desktop shortcut?

from the start menu open your control panel, select internet options then you should see a "connections" tab. If you click on that the option is there to set up a new connection.

HTH

If you have XP, you can restore to a point before you deleted said program.

I thought the CD rom from the service provider should sort the internet connection, because on braodband you will not need the dial up sequence that the wizard would try and connect to, or as usuall am I wrong :(

what provider and is it through a router ? adsl or cable?

Windows 98se. Broad band via Belkin router to a USB Dongle. I deleted the file to free room up. Opps

have you tried using the windows 98SE system file restorer which will check the integrity of your system files and should also spot and replace any that are missing

from the start menu select "run" then type in "SFC" and hit the enter key

another option is just to reinstall windws 98SE over itself. This should leave all your settings in place but give you a repaired version of Windows

to do that do you just boot with the rescue disc and enter what command? BTW will he lost his work and photos etc if I do this??

I couldnt "ping" a pong!

yes it starts 192.

well , that would be the number you would ping to see if you can get access onto the router .

Start , run , command .

this should open an MS dos box and type : ping 192.xxx.xxx.xxx replacing the x's with the numbers

it shouldn't change any of his files although it's always worth backing them up,

just boot with a floppy and run "setup"

Andy

Right. I've fixed a few other things and the usb dongle now receives data from all the networks in the street! But i cant ping the router, internet explorer wont open a page and internet connection wizard is still missing:)
