iPhone integration (again!)

Sorry to drag this up again guys. I've done a search but to be honest there is so much information it's a little confusing trying to distill the information that I'm after.
I've just acquired a new iPhone 3G. I already have the SAP2 BT module which I understand won't work correctly with the iPhone.
So, I'm thinking of getting a ViseeO MBU2000. Can somebody in the know (Richard maybe?) please confirm that the MBU2000 & iPhone 3G integrates correctly. Phone book download etc.

Any pitfalls that I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance

The ViseeO MBU2000, the Mercedes HFP (address book download fixed in iPhone software 2.2) and the Mercedes iPhone cradle all work with the iPhone including address book download.

I personally use the HFP and it works perfectly since Apple released software V2.2.

Haha, typical. I got rid of an HFP puck for the SAP one when I bought my Nokia!

I take it these other cradles download the phonebook and connect using bluetooth, as the iPhone cradle (which I currently have) only works with the car when the phone is actually in the cradle. Its a pain in the backside as I can never be bothered to put the phone in the cradle for short journeys (as I'll leave it in there by accident) so I'm not getting the full use out of it.

Hi, Yes the HFP cradle works exactly the same as the purpose made iphone cradle.(assuming you've updated to software v2.2 in itunes)
Apart from no charging obviously

;)

doh! in which case there are better solutions to the 'iPhone Cradle'

There are pros and cons to both units. Iphone cradle is cheaper and charges your phone which is usefull on longer journeys and for the buisness user its essential. HFP works wireless wont charge and costs about £70 more. however it'll probably work for your next phone and your wifes phone etc.

For me its about finding the right one for the individual customer, how often do they change their phone and stuff.

I switched from the HFP to the Viseeo 2000 unit before the last Apple software update and I have to say that the HFP unit seemed more robust and reliable than the Viseeo unit - it often doesn't connect automatically, I have often had the iPhone ringing with an incoming call but not thorugh the Viseeo etc

Now that they both work with the iPhone, I wish I had kept the HFP unit.

The other things is that the HFP displays the name of your iPhone on the Comand screen under the signal strength display whereas the Viseeo only displays Viseeo - small issue I know, but still annoying.

How long have you had your iphone cradle? is it still boxed etc?

Do you have a good relationship with your local dealer, good enough to do you an exchange?

Or you can always get a bit shirty because it doesnt charge an iphone 3G.
3G iphone needs 5v to charge and the cradle you have (A2048202351) which is th 2G iphone cradle that is putting out 12v, it looks like its taking a charge from the cradle but its not. 3G cradle with 5v charging is on its way, We have a part no but its not available yet.

So either way you get a refund, Then you can buy an HFP off me ;)

Knowledge is power lol :bannana:

ouch, another blow, I didn't know that. The cradle is only 3 months old with the box, but I bought it from Alfie (Comand).

Ask nicely then :D Or ebay it. Offer a swap on ebay, there will be someone on there that hasnt updated to 2.2 and is gutted about no phone book with their HFP.

forum was back to normal speed again last night at home

I use the Thb Bury system 8 carkit , which I got originally for my Treo 650 . When I subsequently got the original iPhone at the time of its launch , I waited and got the Thb cradle for it - works a treat ! There is also a mini-jack on the bottom of the cradle which allows stereo audio to be taken out and fed into a RF modualtor so you can use the iPod function via your car stereo ( or connect directly if you have a suitabloe input ) .

Thb now have a cradle for the iPhone 3G , but I hven't bothered upgrading the phone as there is still no 'proper' satnav application for the device ( the addition of GPS being the only feature that would make me want to upgrade ) , TomTom apparently have an application ready to go for the iPhone but , due no doubt to contractural reasons involving Apple's involvement with Google Maps , there is no sign of this being released as yet . The 'GPS navigation' package currently on the iPhone is laughable as it is only designed for pedestrians to use and actually dangerous for anyone to try to use whilst driving . I currently have a second cradle on a windscreen sucker and still use my Treo 650 running TomTom Navigator 5 for satnav .

If Apple don't get their act together by the time my contract runs out sometime next year and produce/enable a proper car navigation package , I'll be moving elsewhere - this , despite being a Apple computer user of some 20+ years standing (started with an Apple II ) and being a great fan of Apple products in general .

I just ordered one of these yesterday from Comandonline (Alfie)

Mercedes iphone cradle

It clearly states that it charges the iphone 3G and downloads the address book and if it doesn't do both then it will be of no use to me.

If I do have any issues with it not doing what I need then I will take them up with the supplier and not be airing them on a public forum

Although it now shows out of stock I have email confirmation of despatch.

that's what I've got, it only works if you put the phone in it, otherwise it does nothing for you. I'd like to clarify that I'm not airing anything about Comand or Alfie, just about the product itself.

I also have a BlackBerry Curve 'work' phone as well as the iPhone for personal use so I guess it would be handy to have that connected as well.
Does anyone know if the HFP and ViseeO are fully functional with the BB.
Also, what would likely happen if I get in the car with both phones?
It's not too important. I don't mind missing the odd work related call in my own time :-)

Surely that's the benefit of a public forum. To help others avoid the same issues??

It does charge and download the address book - no need to worry.
