Car
M140 (68) / E300 Coupe (69) - coming soon
I got my W209 CLK on the 1st (59 plate :p ) and added the iPod kit, Parrot CK310 and Parrot Multican.

The iPod works and I can skip forward and back with track names displayed on the dash. The Parrot works - Multican lights up green and the parrot powers up and 'goodbyes' with the ignition. However, neither respond to the telephone keys being pressed.

I get "function not available" on the dash display when I press the steering wheel buttons and "No Tel" when I press the Tel button the Comand SatNav.

The dealership seem happy to help but don't know what I want. Can anyone help me describe it - or can do it for me? I live in Monmouth (nr. Gloucester) and work regularly in Twickenham

NB. iPod kit is B67824254 and, contrary to the guides I've read, my car doesn't have the two orange fibre optic cables in the COMAND harness.

Hi does your brand new 59 plate W209 have telephone pre-wire?

thought not! :p

anyway, you need to get the car coded to tell it that it has a phone to enable the phone buttons in the steering wheel.

Was the ipod kit fitted by the dealer? or did you fit it afterwards?

if you fitted it did you transfer the orange fibres to the new connector harness that went into the back of the COMAND? - need to create this fibre ring. Might be best to speak to the guys at COMAND.

hope this helps, and enjoy your new motor!!:thumb:

There were no orange fibres to transfer.

The car is terrific!

If you didnt have any orange fibres on the quadlock connector then you dont have fibre in the car. so no need to worry about those at all.

All you need to do is to go to the dealer (or a good independent) and ask them to code the cluster for phone present. This will enable the buttons on the steering wheel.

Sequence in STAR after setting car type etc is;
Information and Communication
Control Unit Adaptations
Instrument Cluster
Settings

Set PHONE = PRESENT
Transfer coding to the car.

Thanks Alfie, exactly what I needed. In my brief time on this board I've seen just how helpful you are to one and all. A great advert for your commercial efforts.

NB. What option dictates you get fibre optic connection? Does it make any difference?

The dealer 'turned the steering wheel buttons on' and they now work as described with the iPod interface. However, still no joy with the Parrot MultiCan. :(

Don't suppose anyone has any ideas?

The Multican has a green light so all looks well.

[edit] After going through all the possibilities with the tech support guys at Parrot they say that everything looks like it is working 100% - the only thing is my Multican is an old stock item (an AB serial number) rather than the newer AC models. He suggests I swap it with my supplier for one with an AC serial.

Where is the multican connected to for it's CAN ?

The iPod kit inserts itself between the car and the head unit and translates messages on the way (so it can put it's messages up on the Audio menu on cluster)

I wonder if there is some bad interaction.

Its posisbly worth trying it without the iPod kit "intercepting" loom in place

That's a good call Richard.

One of the tests we did was to check that the Multican (MC) unit was receiving the key presses. The MC has a single LED that lights up Green to show that it has a CAN connection and it briefly flashes red when it receives a steering wheel button command (Phone up/down).

The MC flashed red when I pressed the buttons so I guess it is not for want of input??

Yes, sounds like it is receiving, but what it is being sent may be being filtered by the iPod kit or squashed by it (depending where the MC connects to the CANbus)

If you have Mercedes bodgy phone retrofit the FSE12, it also hooks inbetween the stereo and car like the iPod kit & if I rememebr right you can not use the iPod kit with it (well, its not supported whether it works or not ...)

Worth a try then - althought it took me AGES to get all the cables sorted and flush!

The car's loom connects to a connects2 quadlock bridge for the Parrot (into which I've spliced the CAN feed for the MC) which then goes to the iPod Quadlock bridge which connects to the COMAND

[Edit] Just disconnected the iPod adapter cable from it's "Box" and still no joy with the Parrot so I hope the "AC" version does the trick.

Wat do you mean 'just disconnected the iPod adapter cable from its box' do you mean disconnecting it from the black control box - that doesn't test all the possible errors.

I think U need to take the iPod Quadlock bridge out and try that. If it works, it may be that it will then work with the iPod quadlock and parrot quadlock swopped round.

Cheers

I tried another Multican with an AB serial number and the result was the same. I then received an AC unit from Parrot and ..... IT WORKED!

So if you buy a Multican for a MY05-> Merc check it has an AC serial number on the back.
