CLK 320 conv. W124 e220 coup
I recently bought my CLK320 conv I did consider the bigger engined models ie 430 & 55 and common sense prevailed and I went for the middle of the road gloriously smooth V6, and I couldnt be happier. But will probably get an AMG someday.

BUT I now stumble accross websites like CKS performance in Watford CKS Performance - CKS Performance, www.cksperformance.com who seem to offer nice relatively cheap bolt on devices and chip tunes and I wonder whether any one has done any of them and what were the results. ie remapping, exhasut K&N filters etc...

Is there much more power to come out of the V6 or are the gains really not worth the money.

Hope this starts a good debate! :bannana:

I`ve never had any experience with them, but they have bad rep in this forum.Don`t know why though, last time i spoke to the they were very friendly.

They had some very bad feedback on here.. I had a minor negative experience but not enough to cause any hard feelings.

It does seem as if they have changed their operation a lot though.

The best way is to get a supercharger

There's not a lot you can do to them with 'off the shelf bits' that will make them any faster really ...

Kleeman used to ( i think ) do a supercharger pack for them , but this was expensive.

You'd be better off ( and probably cheaper ) to just buy a V8 version

Panel filters , exhausts won't make any difference .

'Chip tuning' a N/A car is a waste of time and money.

As suggested CKS don't have the most confidence inspiring reputation, and to be honest to get any noticeable difference will cost more than most people will find pallatable.

Being a normally aspirated engine you need to look at traditional tuning as a chip/remap won't do much on it's own. Think breathing: exhaust, manifold, cams, air filter, etc. That lot will take away some of the smooth qualities you like in the car though.

As suggested, a supercharger would make a difference - 300bhp plus is within reach - but cost may be prohibitive. Kleemann.dk should be able to help, but you better not let your better half know how much they relieve you of to bolt a SC on!!

As others have said, not worth it for what you would gain in power etc,a c36 has a kompressor & awesome performance, always think it's better to get a bigger engine in the 1st place rather than re-mapping etc...

Meant c32 kompressor!

Just to reiterate - no point spending money, it'll make no real difference at all :o

It wasn't really worth spending money trying to tune these cars a few years ago, and now they're so cheap to buy it makes even less sense now.

To put it bluntly - if you're already having thoughts and looking for more power, I'd move up quickly to a 430 - it probably won't cost you very much to change and the torquey, smooth V8 will give you plenty of punch for pulling the CLK cabriolet around

Just IMHO :)

I notice Jay has a nice-looking 430 cab for sale at the moment.

Cheers for the responses, its one of those things. You know the answer but had to ask. Interesting about CKS though.

I bought a muffler from a chap in Surrey who had alot of work done on his 55 by them and sung their praises so I guess different people have different views.

I love the idea of a supercharger but will probably save the pennies and when bored of the convertible try and get a 55 coupe.

Cheers again made a break from the Snow posts!!

I think you're looking at around 2.5K for a custom exhaust to be made up including headers by Kleeman, (V6 engines). Then probably another 5K + for a SC installation, clearly you'll have to beef everything up to handle the extra grunt. Both the C32 and SLK32 have similar engines, and to produce the extra HP, AMG threw all the internals away of the standard 320 V6 engine in order to handle the power.

No, go buy a either a V8 or a V6 SC car would be my advice :)

Google cks performance there was a bit on here a while ago but it all dissappeared from this site but some is still out there wont take long to find.

CKS - suspension changes

Funnily enough, I've just reached the same conclusion on tuning the 320 V6 & have decided to sort the body roll out instead - using CKS Watford for the new bits; Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs & bars etc. I'll report back on how we get on - they've been really helpful so far & prices are straight.
I'm doing a fair mileage as well so want to keep the MPG reasonable. (Still wish I'd bought the 430 I saw first though.....!)

Having Just bought a 430 from Jay @ Mercland - have to say its performance is better than I expected - sounds good - and isn't as thirsty as I'd expected either...........so, thanks to Jay - its a good buy!
