I've just put a deposit down on an SL500

Wow - you must be excited

I'm genuinely pleased for you as I know you've been patiently looking for the last year or so. As someone who was also looking at R129s last year, I'd be interested to see/hear some more details when you've got them.

Can you make it to Brooklands for a couple of hours for the GTG at the end of the month? :)

Will

It's this one below.

I've been looking at these for over a year and I've seen a lot of cars now. I went to see this one this morning and despite not being a great fan of grey interiors, or the wheels, it leapt out at me as being a far better car than many I've seen costing at least £3k more.

Everything is totally as it should be, no paint, no molestations, no dings or scrapes anywhere, a really nice genuine car. The dealer is going to give it a service and sort the aircon which didnt appear to be working (bit difficult to tell when its only 5 deg) but other than that, the car is a cracker.

Just got to sort out the insurance and balance of funds now

Looks a great car, good luck with it...

Excellent, nice to see another 129 owner, look forward to seeing it sometime...

Lovely car..I was going to say that I thought it was about a grand too much till I saw it had a panny roof....they're wonderful. Nice car, nice price, well done!

Wow!! That is LOVELY! Congrats on the purchase.

Nice car - that's a pretty fair price for a facelift '500 with sensible miles and a pano roof

I know what you mean about poor examples as I looked at an identical age/mileage car (spooky - 98/S, 87k miles and was up for £8995!) that was over near Chelmsford last spring. It had corrosion on the pano roof where the edges were, the air con didn't work, oil leaks from the cam covers, the LCD displays weren't working on the climate control, the cats rattled under load, soft top had small splits appearing in the plastic windows etc...

In fact the one I looked at also had grey leather, but was obsidian black with factory AMG split rim wheels. Am I right in thinking that these were the thick end of £80k new ~ 12 years ago?

Worth hanging out for a good car - they don't always cost all that much more and are obviously much better in the long run.

I like that. R129 SLs vary so much in my taste, with the variation of colours inside and out and old to facelift. Pleased to see that is a nice late model, looks great to me.

Congratulations sp!ke...

That's very nice, I really like the colour combo and the late models. One of my neighbours had one just like that (also on an S Plate) with the Pano roof. I quite like that style of wheel too.

Well done, a lot of car for the money :D

Will you be selling the CE?

I'm not sure its worth a lot really but then I could do without having a third car to tax and insure on top of the 4 motorcycles.

I wonder how much it would be to insure my 19 year old daughter in it? Maybe that would be an option as it has to be better than her current KA.
