Guys,

just thought it might be useful if u guys are looking for new tyres and stuck.
I been researching quite a bit and talking to quite a few "tyre garages" i ended up with the dunlop sport sp01 a, so far i can say great choice i had contis on and INSTANTLY i noticed quite noise. Seems more grippy on standing start too and seems to grip REALLY well around corners (rondabouts etc), but as i have not done >1000 miles yet cannot comment on overall just yet. All i can say so far is that great choice i be intrested to hear others who had these too as i have noticed a VAST inmprovement

(air: 30 f, 33 r as it says in owner manual do people use different?)

these the 'quiet' tyres, aren't they?

yes apparently they are one of the quietest tyres u can get and i must agree they are quiet (mine are 205/55/16) to early to comment on wear :o

I have seen these tyres on the BMW 5 series .. they are run flats though

I have sport 01's on my steel wheels, and I have to say they have been perfectly quiet and civilised, no more noisy than any other tyre I've tried. Grip is fine, although the combination of skinny 15's and Elegance suspension means it's fairly wallowy.

If the 01A's are run-flats, then that could explain the harshness and noise.

I noticed yesterday that my rears are down to the ware indicators. I replaced my conti's on my last car with Dunlop 2020's and loved them as they actually gripped in the wet unlike the conti's and were quiet and last well.

I just spoke to Dunlop technical and they said that 2020's would do well on my car but that Mercedes approved the Dunlop Sport 01 over even the Dunlop Maxx range.

I guess I'm after 2020's or ideally 01's if I can get hold of them in my staggered sizes.

Interesting, I picked up the new ride last night (Audi A4 Avant) and noticed the tyre roar on the motorway and wondered if it was the tyres or that the car itself is fairly quiet - newish SP2000s on the front and 8000s in need of replacement on the back.

Didn't last for me though

I tried these when they came out and they are the quietest tyre I've tried on my 124 Diesel to date, but they only lasted 12K. Heavy car, but no power, but still only 12K.

The best I've used so far (and still use) are the Michelin Pilot Primacy, not *quite* as quiet, but better grip and over twice as far!

I ended up fitting Dunlop Sport 2020 which on my last car did over 20,000 miles, so heres hoping!

First impressions are quieter than conti's, more comfortable and better dry weather grip.

I fitted SP01 to my car (215/55R16) and was delighted how quiet they are. At first I could hardly detect a difference in noise between tarmac and concrete sections of the motorway - but of course over time the noise is drifting back. My point here is that any new set of tyres is likely to feel lovely at first but as they wear down and more rubber is in contact with the road, they inevitably get a little noisier.

I'm very happy with these tyres, certainly a whole lot more grip than the Pirelli P6000 it wore before.

I would only fit, Michelin, Continental or Dunlop to my C Class having run three Mercedes and countless sets of tyres. Michelins are good allrounders, Contis are durable (not the assymetrical ones!), and Dunlops look good are quirt and perform well.

i would go with that R2D2, dunlops seem under-rated by lots of people, done 300 miles on new tyres now and so far excellent far better then the Conti's, pirellei's and bridgestones i had before. If i had the money i would of gone for Mitchs primacy just for the longativity aspect and performance but they ain#'t half pricey :(

i think for value->performance i am happy with the dunlop sp01 a's
